Martinez's knee were NOT hurt, the problem was..

They were not responding, not even there.

Anybody who's played sports at high level (I did, basketball) would understand the difference between being hurt, and not responding (which was why his trainer stopped the bout).

When you have bad knees... even if you might be able to plant your body weight on it, you can't push or get any force out of them wether its to jump, punch, push or pull.

Martinez was shoot from round 12th of Chavez and Murray was paid off to not make him loose at home in front of his fans, hence why he eased up when Sergio was obviously done.

Still, great win for Cotto's career, when people look at records they won't see any of the stuff I just mentioned. His fans will slobber all over this win and his haters will hate. But to say Cotto looked "Great" is an overstatement and that Martinez looked "Bad" is an understatement... the guy was dragging his feet during warm ups in the dressing room.

No, I played internationally. The assessment I made about knee injuries is based on experience, medical studies and common sense.

Don't overthink the situation dumb ass, you're going to get a headache.

I tore my ACL and had 3 surgeries and even after doing all the correct rehabilitation etc... I am unable to sprint, my left leg just cannot push off like my right leg can. If I try to sprint I look like an idiot, my leg just cannot do what my mind tells it to.

I understand the point being made, I think. There's a difference between not feeling able to push through the pain caused by an injury and finding that your body will not physically do what you want it to do. I think the latter is what Sergio experienced.

                Good post.

Cotto looked excellent last night and could have beaten a prime and younger Martinez too.

But, at 39 years old with a style that relies on mobility, Martinez had absolutely nothing to bring. He tried fighting like his body was still in his 20's and made no adjustments for his age.

That thing you said about his knees or whatever not responding.. That is what always happens to people as they get older. The legs simply stop responding to what the mind tells it do to and Martinez simply lacked the intelligence to adapt to his age and body.

Same thing happened to Ali, but he made up for it with the rope a dope.

Cotto had a lot of bounce in his feet. When Cotto gets to 39 years old he too will probably experience what every athlete goes through with the aging process and if Cotto is smart, he'll adapt his style to suit his body's response time in relation to Father Time.

The problem was that he suffered a knee injury at his age. If he was in his mid 20's, his body would be able to recover much quicker, but at his age, the muscle atrophy around his legs wouldn't be recoverable.

It's not only the knee, but the rehab that a older guy can't 100% go through like a young guy can to regain the muscles around the knee. Thus leading to weaker legs, and bad knees.

I can almost guarantee you, his hamstring and supporting muscles are at 50% of what they used to be, and that's a huge deal if you're an elite athlete.
