Cotto is not under contract with Top Rank

I never heard of him resigning, he just started working with them. I think he is a free agent and can go back and forth as he pleases.

So Ellerbe or Mayweather do not have to deal with Bob Arum, probably one of the reasons why Arum or Roach are mentioning him because they want to line up Cotto with a Top Rank fighter or a fight where Top Rank can still be involved in.

We don't know what kind of contract he had.

It could of been the kind of contract where if he wins he stays w TR and HBO, but gets a guaranteed nice paycheck for his next fight.

True free agents in boxing are rare, and HBO and cotto have had a good relationship for a lot of years now. They don't want him back on Showtime either.

He isn't under contract but he told Todd that he will never do another fight without him, so basically he will have Top Rank helping him promote his remaining fights and Top Rank will give him help with his new promotional company when he retires. Similar to how Top Rank first helped Oscar de la hoya start up Golden Boy.

Cotto is not going to jump ship, Marquez also doesn't have a contract with Top Rank but he remains loyal to Arum and wants Top Rank to promote his future fights.

It would be cool if Arum allowed Pacman to do his own thing like he did for Cotto and Marquez.

I thought I read somewhere that he is in contract. But he has the draw and power to do so on a fight to fight basis. Arum doesn't force him to sign long term contracts like other fighters.

But cotto can if he wants to

Pacquiao could have been in the same position if he would have stepped away after his contract like Cotto did then came back later under his own terms, but no....

Arum hired all of Pacmans team, so his advisors and managers were all hand picked by Arum lol so Pac is screwed. While Cotto got his own manager and so does Marquez.

Koncz works for Pac, but Koncz basically works for Arum and advises Pac through what Arum tells him to tell Pac so all the advice Koncz gives is basically to stick with Arum.

I think I saw Cotto co-promote some cards at Shobox many months ago, and he's mainly promoting Puerto Rican fighters. And I think one of his fighters fought tonight and lost. Probably why he's in the audience watching next to his wife.

I can't find the article, but Dan Rafael recently said Cotto is obligated to Top Rank from some weird reason despite not having a contract.
