    • I'm not going to take Sergio's bum knees as his only reason for losing. Why? Because it was also his inability to land shots, and his unwillingness to keep a traditional guard up; which only works if he CAN move. Yes, Martinez was shot (I thought he'd stop Cotto) but let's give Miguel credit for an amazing performance.

The real issue I have going forward is, despite Cotto looking good last night, the other big boys at 160 people are now attaching his name to are simply too big. Just as I don't want to diminish Cotto's victory, I don't want to overstate it; now he's going to have to defend that belt against a legit middleweight who isn't facing the same issues Martinez was.

Just because he did that to Maravilla doesn't translate indefinitely in that division guys.

Thats a fair point but you know the guys at the lower weights are licking their chops. And the money fights are with those guys, he and Canelo are gonna get paid

They were saying Cotto is cashing out too, he's washed up, etc. Now that their precious Martinez took an L, they pourin excuses on some bartender ****.
So if in your mind Martinez was Martinez. In retrospect, how do you feel now about Floyd beating an even younger version of Cotto?

At their physical peaks, Roy was better. But what Roy depended on to be great was based mostly on physical talent. So once those physical gifts started to fade. He based went from the best fighter ob the planet to a complete bum that was being put to sleep by B and C class fighters in a night. It was pretty predictable that Martinez's decline was gonna be steep.

On a sidenote. To me the most impressive thing about Pacquiao is that he's been able to stay on top ad long as he had fighting in a style that suggest his decline was gonna be steep. Same with Roy. People act like Roy was a here today gone tomorrow flash-n-da-pan because his decline was so sudden. Roy can make a very good argument that he was the P4P King for a decade plus. That's unbelievable.
I do agree with you in a sense....especially the fact that athletic boxers that depend on that to survive do fall quickly....Roy Jones was one that lasted much longer than I believed he would. He used the same skills and when they declined slightly, albeit, late in his career, he was an open target at times....but he also beat the living dog **** out off several top opponents....I do like the Hopkins comparison because he boxes in a way he will be able to continue up to 50, lol....same as Mayweather...Mayweather does rely on speed a ton, but his defense is so good that he can turn defense into offense just just like Hopkins.....Pac, however, I don't believe relies on the same thing. He does rely on speed a lot,, but it is the power/impact of his punches and he can keep that for a few more years....what he will have problems with is fighters like Marquez....hence the counter he caught last fight

I don't have a problem with losing to the best boxer in the fight game...who would? By his own admission, Mayweather said Cotto was the toughest he has ever fought....without good training also....I'm not saying Cotto would have won then or won now with Roach, I'm just saying, without it, he put on a show

I agree this is how it will probably play out, but GGG and Canelo do not deserve that payday...AT ALL....just haven't done what they need to do yet

                  • Cotto has sealed his legacy - he's the LINEAL champ at 160 - what's with all the excuses??

If anyone cares to watch Rosado's prediction on last night's fight - he called it right. Cotto's fundamentals and rejuvenation would've been tough for any version of Martinez.

Roach called it. Cotto isn't a Murray, Barker, Mackling, Chavez ....

Cong**** to Cotto! HOFer for sure, and 1 of this eras true champions.

Rematch Floyd and get a better deal purse wise! 50/50 fight with the edge to Cotto

I've always credited Mayweather for that win. To me, Miguel Cotto is one of the more underrated fighters today.
