boxing is like jazz, the better it is the less people appreciate it.
    George Foreman

this is whats killing boxing, people may hate the lebrons of the world but they still appreciate his greatness. they may not support the player but they support quality and with that the advancement of the game.

in boxing greatness gets labeled boring and shunned while mediocrity is celebrated. when quality stopped being appreciated promoters would just take garbage but well liked fighters and label them as good, then it snowballed from there.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm a Ward fan. A pretty big one actually. But his #2 P4P status gots to be revoked. Has to. Just too inactive. I don't care who you put there at 2 but you can't be this inactive and maintain a spot one step away from the top of the mountain.

i don't like ward's attitude at all. he has the potential to be truly great but he acts like his career is already largely over

He's either so full of himself that he thinks he should dictate the way the big earners do, or he wants to cash out and retire. Either way he's lost a lot of interest and is only making things worse for himself every time he opens his mouth.

It's unfortunate, but he's far from the first fighter to waste his prime.

You mean the same basketball fans who are calling him a b*tch because he wouldn't play because of cramps that kept the guy from being able to walk? Lebron is more hated and unappreciated than any great boxer today.

He's in the same position as Bernard Hopkins was years ago but unfortunately Ward has taken himself out of the game instead of using his position at HBO to create interest. Ward should've took a page for hopkins. Just kept beating his drum, calling out the money fighters while staying active by fighting whatever bum of the month is available. Eventually he'd get enough public support for promoters to make those fights.

I think the shoulder injury gave him a different perspective. Another one, and that might be it.

Because he obviously doesn't enjoy boxing anymore like he's said already. He wants to have a few ppv fights and retire young.
