If you're not, and you're just a fan of boxing, what's the beef? Nothing I said should incense you. I said we all have favorites but abandoning logic for emotion is ignorant.

And I hate to say you're seeming a tad ignorant presently.
Abandoning logic for emotion all the time is ignorant. Abandoning logic for emotion every now and then is human nature.

Everyone can like any fighter they want for any reason as long as they are not obnoxious about it. Who are you to say liking a fighter based on his fighting style is better than liking a fighter based on his nationality etc?

It's dynamic really and fighters strike different chords with a person differently. I may go for a fighter because he represents a country (i.e., Mexico - I'm mexican american), or I might invest in a fighter because of his natural talents and abilities like Rigondeaux, or I might personally reflect on the fighter and go by character which I do quite a bit like a Martinez or Hopkins.

For me it's a mix - I can't imagine a boxing fan being a boxing fan that can only look at one lense and say this is the only fighter I like because of nationality, or Style, or character.

I can say this that I do appreciate a pure boxer over a puncher...that's a personal preference.

I agree with you but what that poster referenced from me was more in the context of discussing a fight.

I feel like you should use logic and reason in analyzing the fight, and discussing it.

Feel free to double down on emotion and adrenaline while you root for your guy during the fight, though.

        Just my opinion.

Fair enough, but how can you lose logic in analyzing and discussing a fight when you really want you guy to win? Especially if he's a big underdog and you are trying your best to convince yourself that he has a chance?

I guess that's where I'm a bit different. I've gone into a fight rooting for a boxer and knowing full well that I expected the other guy to win. Because I can't ignore the facts I've learned watching the combatants in previous fights, and despite my own emotions and desire to see a guy win, I don't try and mindphuck myself into believing a guy can win, even if I like him, if I just don't believe it.

I understand what you mean, that to truly root for a guy you want to have passion that he WILL pull out a victory. But I've rooted for a guy knowing full well he needed that one miracle punch to win; that's what happened to me in the Marquez Pacquiao fight -I'd seen this story several times before, and watched Marquez start getting busted up, and knew the next round was probably his last - so when that miracle of a shot happened I was SHOCKED.

            It was an amazing moment.

It truly was. And luckily enough I was on the "right" side of it.

I don't know if it's better or worse, but I always mindphuck myself into believing my guy can win. And when he doesn't, it just breaks my heart.
