  • Comments Thread For: Wladimir Klitschko-Kubrat Pulev Purse Bid on 6/17

On June 17th, the International Boxing Federation will hold purse bids for Wladimir Klitschko´s long overdue defence of the IBF title against mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev. All in all - given the IBF tournament that never got off the ground - Pulev has been waiting for his chance for close to two years now. The monetary split for the fight is 80-20 in favor of the champion.

The fight will be in September in Hamburg. Think I might go for this event.

Lucky you if you do. You may witness something historic.

Btw the reason the IBF elimination tourney "never got off the ground" is because Adamek blatantly and shamelessly ducked Pulev. They won the semifinals, and Adamek declined to face Pulev in the final, despite Pulev's willingness to fight him in Poland.

I think an 80-20 split in general is just dumb. I think purse splits in general are dumb. I think boxers should be paid just like any other athlete in any other sport. This fight by fight payment system is what causes a lot of pissing matches, a lot of fighting through the media, fights not getting made, and fighters simply not fighting. I know its part of boxing history and culture but I hate how money is a key element in every negotiation and if a fight isn't made its not uncommon to hear money and the purse splits being the reason.

Pulev has a decent resume, with wins over Thompson and Ustinov. I'll give Wlad credit if/when he beats him.

                    Very unlike you VG

This fight isn't a walk in the park for Wlad however I think If you were to compare Povetkin with Pulev for me I'd say Povetkin is the better of the two.
