So my question is if he didnt get these "GIFT" matchups against handicap fighters would he even be relevent today? or if he had faced these fighters (minus Martinez as it hasnt took place yet) would he even get pass these fighters NON handicap version?

im not sure if cotto taking on martinez was a smart idea, but you have to give cotto credit for fighting everyone.

I recall a bunch of people picking foreman to win that fight too.Cotto was winning. Not his fault the ref disregarded the towel thrown in.And i agree sounds like a preexcuse thread for Martinez. Alot of people stated a 50 % Martinez beats Cotto. Sooo noooo excuses....

Not quite. Many people predicting a Martinez victory (such as myself) also acknowledge the possibility that the injuries and age might be a big factor here. If he beats even an 80% Sergio then I believe he deserves a lot of credit. I just can't envision Cotto winning against the Martinez that fought Chavez Jr., or even the one who fought Murray so I'll give him full props if he pulls it off. However, if Martinez looks like total shit then I don't think you can give Cotto much props.

This is a dangerous sport... if Cotto's opponents signed the contract then shame on them for putting their lives at risk for money
