Comments Thread For: Roach: Martinez's Chin Not Good, One Shot and It's Over

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is raising questions about the durability of Sergio Martinez's chin. This Saturday night at New York's Madison Square Garden, Martinez (51-2-2, 28KOs) will defend his WBC middleweight title against Roach's newest star pupil, former three division champion Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31KOs).

Um, considering Roach trains both fighters and has worked with Chavez Jr. in fights prior to Martinez, I think he knows best what the hell he's talking about when he's comparing punching power. If it's true that Cotto is punching harder than Chavez Jr. then it can very well happen that Cotto who is a significantly greater boxer than Chavez Jr. can and will trap Martinez to let his hands go. I think if he lands the type of hook on Martinez that he landed on Rodriguez, it will most certainly hurt him.

Of course Martinez is no Rodriguez, but Rodriguez or not Rodriguez, that type of hook landing on you will hurt you no matter which fighter you are. I think he's just working better and harder with Roach and he's probably corrected the way he throws some of his shots. We'll see who lands first on Saturday.

Cotto a bigger puncher than Chavez Jr LOL. Now I am sure Roach has gone crazy. Then again he keeps saying his fighters are going to get KO's he is bound to get one right.

Cotto maybe hitting harder than Chavez, but we know for sure that Martinez hits harder than Torres, Judah, pacman etc. who have all buzzed/dropped cotto.

Roach needs to stop it with against this fighter and against that fighter, on the night anything can happen. If Martinez knee doesn't hold up and cotto can work the body, Miguel might break him down and stop him. But a 70-80% sergio is too big, too fast, hits too hard and is too unorthodox for cotto.

          Sergio by stoppage.

do you really believe it though roach hates chavez and not to mention he outweighs him at least 20 pounds im not buying it but i do think cotto is being disrespected. He has a chance to win this fight period hes better then anyone martinez has fought in 3 years size or not

If martinez knee doesnt hold up cotto will win, if martinez knee holds up cotto will lose, if martinez hand and shoulder are ok he will win by knockout. Freddie only trains fighters to come forward and throw punches when cotto comes forward he gives up height and reach and sergio will tag his bald head all night and he will look different when the fight is over.

Not going to argue that his chin seems questionable after the past couple of fights. Murray got an official KD and one that looked like it could'e been one
