Yeah, I can't really compare the damage Chavez did against Maravilla to any one shot Cotto brings up with him. Miguel is an activity fighter, with a good body hook, NOT a one punch ****er; which works in Sergio's favor.

I will grant that I thought Martinez, who I like, looked rather...ordinary...against Murray but, again, he WAS dealing with a man much naturally larger than Miguel.

It comes down to rounds in the bank for Cotto, which really comes down to Sergio's mobility and stamina - a.k.a. what he has left in the tank.

I agree, the Martinez who fought Murray probably won't breeze through Cotto, but the Cotto who had problems with the bigger punchers he's faced isn't going to love Sergio's pop, either....

For all those who THINKS that martinez is the better fighter. He has been dropped in his past four fights. Got a gift decision in his last fight vs murray. He beat an old pavlik who has only jermaine taylor has his notable win. An old taylor as a matter of fact who arthur abraham did better than pavlik. Chavez jr. didn't throw any punches until the last round, because he is the type of fighter who needs to set his feet to throw those big shots, so since he was down on the scorecard he just started swinging punches and dropped martinez. Matthew macklin is a nobody, darren barker is a nobody, Serhiy Dzinziruk is a nobody, Paul Williams was a good fighter but he did lose to carlos quintana, and they would have fought a 3rd time but williams got into that accident. Erislandy Lara got robbed in that Pwilliams fight. He couldn't even beat kermit cintron convincingly, and as a puertorican I can tell you cintron is ass. Other than those fighters, he has fought plenty of bums in spain and argentina to pad up that record. Oh, and when he fought for the 1st time in nevada, he got ko'd by margacheatoh and then went back to spain to fight more bums. Now, styles makes fights. I see some people here saying that cotto gets hit alot. yes he did, thats because whenever he used to throw punches he would switch up his stance and that was when he was vounorable(spellcheck). Cotto understands that now that roach pointed that out to him, (the main reason pacquiao was even able to tag him so many times). Stylistically wise, He is back to the old cotto, dig that hook to the liver, something that he has gotten away from in recent years due to his different trainers. Mayweather knows this, (dont get mad mayweather fanboys, im just using him as an example). When cotto was 31-0 and just beat mosley, he was a body hooking machine. Then, a month later after the ricky hatton fight, mayweather retired saying that he has nothing left to prove, meanwhile cotto and him was in the same weight division. He only unretired after cotto lost to margarito, changed trainers, changed his STYLE of fighting, giving up the left hook to the body for a jab and being more defensive.

Yes, He trained 5 days, and How he ended up?With a broken ocular bone fracture and Jaw fracture. How will you justify that? Martinez beat Williams twice, Macklin, barker,Dzinziruk, undefeated guys, now He outboxed Chavez, Martinez always went down since he started his carrer, Now isn't marquez all the time in the canvas? wasn't Sugar Ray Leonard. the best of all time on the canvas all the fights? wasn't the best on the canvas?you know the difference is that The real champs know how to adapt ,while inflated fighters liek Cotto everytime they go down, they lose their fights. Now, tell me who is the best fighter, the one that turns back fights, or the one that never wins when the fight is not favorable? Martinez had a broken wrist in the 4th round against Murray.I don't count that as a 100 percent fighter, even like that, you have to beat the champ. murray was not able to beat a single handed guy.He will fight him again and another will be the outcome, he was not throwing punches because of the fracture. Cotto paper champ, everytime He faced a true champ, lost badly.

Freddie, is that the logic you're applying to Cotto being able to defeat Martinez? Chavez, JR is a naturally much larger man, with natrual talent (although he doesn't always care enough to maximize it), and a champion's bloodline. Maybe he could have beaten Martinez, if not for slacking during camp. There's also the small fact that he faced a very skilled fighter in Martinez. Chavez ain't Cotto & Cotto ain't Chavez, so stop with the ridiculous theories!

I was there for the Chavez fight and Chavez looked way bigger than Martinez, Cotto is a volume puncher kind of like Chavez Sr. was, he hits hard, but not a one punch KO guy. If Chavez was a smaller guy Martinez would've KO him that night. An aggressive Cotto favors Martinez. There are so many intangibles indeed which makes it very interesting.
