This new generation of fighters, I don't know man.

They don't inspire me to continue to watch boxing.

Skillwise very few are good.

The question will always be asked, why couldn't he win a Ring/Lineal title in any weight class?

Cotto lost his biggest fights...Margarito 1*, Pacquiao, Mayweather, Trout, Martinez(? - We'll see). His best wins, Mosley and Clottey were questionable decisions, especially the Clottey one. The Mosley one could have gone either way, but I preferred that fight to be scored a Draw. His absolute best wins, with no controversy are Malignaggi, Quintana, Judah, Torres, Corley, Foreman, Bailey, not exactly a murderers row.

With that said, the Gatti/Mcguigan effect comes into play. If they can make it, any one can. In that case, Cotto should make it as well. The IBHOF didn't do boxing any favors when it inducted Gatti into HOF, now almost any semi popular boxer should get in. Canelo, Broner, Bradley, Maidana, Khan, etc. Lots of HOF worthy fighters now after Gatti entered.

Also, I forgot to mention Pacquiao, Mayweather, etc. they all fought a past prime Cotto. You can't tell me that Cotto was a his best after the brutal beating of Margarito.

Agree with this. People fell in love with Cotto for whatever reason. Obviously Puerto Ricans, but his resume is nothing special. If he makes the HOF it's because his fame.

Cotto is a sure fire HOFer, he fought two #1 P4P kings in their prime(no coincidence the few fighters that fought both are also future HOFers), aside from his career accomplishments. He will be known as one of the warriors of this era that ducked noone during a "Cold War". He was one of the top 3 PPV draws, and quite possibly the only PR fighter to win a title in 4 different weight classes. I didnt have to speak much on his resume because we all know about that, hes also sold out MSG 9 times.. These kind of career highlights are what gets you in the hall of FAME. Sure Cotto lost his BIGGEST fights in his career.. but so did Oscar DLH, Cotto is old school and the voters will be more than happy to vote him in.

Im sure DLH got robbed in the biggest fight at the time against Trinidad, sure he lost against Mosely but he did enough to avenge that loss in the rematch.

he is a quality fighter but im not sure he is hof worthy. just because a fighter wins a few vacant alphabet titles over a couple of weights doesnt make u a hof fighter in my opinion.

I disputed all your points about Mosley and Clottey fight in my first and second post. So what your saying is that we shouldn't give credit to the fighters after every close fight? Look at all the close fights that involved ATG fighters in the history of boxing.

To me winning a lineal title is overrated because it doesn't tell you the whole truth. Baldomir won the lineal title just by beating Judah. JMM won the lineal title at lightweight by beating Casamayor, after Casamayor received a gift and won by robbery in his fight against Santa Cruz. Hamed was the lineal champion at featherweight and he didn't fought Morales, Marquez, Pacquiao and when he fought Barrera he got dominated. Recently Stevenson won the lineal title by beating Dawson, after Dawson got destroyed by Ward and he hasn't fought any of the other top guys in the division like Hopkins and Kovalkev. Zab Judah won a lineal title. Ricky Hatton won a lineal title. Did they better careers than Miguel Cotto?

So basically a fighter can beat what is considered the #1 guy of a divison and avoid the rest of the top fighters and be called the top dog. Is that a real champion?

Yo say the Gatti effect comes into play, it's not just Gatti you can mention a bunch of other guys like Tyson, Pryor, etc. You don't hear anybody going crazy about their selections.
