  • Comments Thread For: Soliman Motivated By Sturm's Verbal Jabs Over Drug Test

Felix Sturm's stern words are motivating Melbourne veteran Sam Soliman going into his rematch with the IBF middleweight boxing world champion in Germany this weekend.

Soliman, 40, will step into the ring in Krefeld on Saturday looking to achieve the high point of a long professional career.

Soliman outpointed Sturm last year in a non-title bout in Germany.

However the German boxing commission altered the result to a no-contest after announcing Soliman had tested positive to an illegal stimulant.

I was like, "Holy shit, Soliman's B sample came out clean in a neutral lab? That has to be a first. Germany is shady as hell."

Then I remembered Soliman tested for something that's illegal in the WADA code (which Germany abides to), but not illegal in the IBF's inadequate PED list. So the B sample coming out clean is just a charade because they only tested for the stuff in the IBF list. Of course it came out clean. They didn't test for everything.

sturms is a terrible champion, if you can even call him that.

everyone knew he beat dlh, but after that he did nothing in his career. think of all of the fighters sturm has avoided at 160 over the last decade while he feasted on eurobums:

        trinidad
        hopkins
        winky
        pavlik
        GGG
        Ouma
        Jermaine Taylor
        Sergio Martinez
        chavez jr

He never even tried to fight for the lineal title in his entire career. Never even tried.

The guy just plain sucks. Winky beat Solimon freaking what 8 years ago? and sturm lost to him when he has a 5 year age advantage over ancient super shot solimon? Sturm is a glorified cab driver

"Australian media reported that the banned substance that Soliman tested positive for is the stimulant methylsynephrine."

Solimon tested positive for an over the counter stimulant found in sports weight loss supplements.... in other words he is old and fat and using stimulants to try to make weight.... in other words sturm lost to an old and fat solimon.

How many of them signed up to fight the champion in Germany?

Of course Sturm is the one who should return to the US so they could rob him again.

              Fool me once...

I do think traveling to prove your worth should go both ways of the pond, but in Sturm's case he never even tried unifying it with Abraham in Germany when he held the IBF version.

Also if all legit MWs were big enough not to be bothered with going to Germany then Sturm could've signed with a U.S promoter like Geale or co-sign and make sure he was given a fair shake. I don't see how he can use the Oscar experience as an excuse to not fight real champions ever again.

Sturm could have been so much more.

Why couldn't they sign with a German promoter and fight in Germany to make sure they got a fair shake?

Anyway Sturm fought De La Hoya, Zbik, Macklin, Murray, Castillejo, Griffin, Geale, Barker, Soliman.

Yeah he avoided a few, but for the most part they weren't exactly falling over themselves to take the belt off him so it works both ways.

Signing with a German promoter to get a Sturm and possibly an Abraham fight isn't bigger than signing with an American one and get a string of big fights. You can't compare the two.

Castillejo was a great win and Barker as he was a champion. Put Zbik in too.

Randy Griffin was not a good win. He never was or became a champion or beat anyone.

As for Murray & Macklin fights, those guys were contenders and not proven champions and he barely beat them. Soliman was a comeback fight and can't be counted as something of note. I do respect him to for getting it on with Geale, but again he lost. The argument is why he never tried getting it on with so many of the other elite fighters. He didn't even fight Abraham of all people to unify.

His only claim to fame is getting a raw deal vs Oscar, but he has used it to justify not fighting elite fighters.
