  • Comments Thread For: IBF: Klitschko's 80-20 Purse Split Request Approved

Bernd Boente, manager of WBO/IBF/WBA/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52KOs), has confirmed that the International Boxing Federation has approved the request by Team Klitschko to modify the purse bid split to 80-20, in favor of the champion, with respect to the mandatory obligation to undefeated challenger Kubrat Pulev (20-0, 11KOs). The usual split is 75-25 in favor of the champion.

    Fair I guess.

Pulev literally brings nothing to the table. He's used to be fighting for a couple of hundred grand at best. So a million dollar payday should suit him nicely.

Took the 5% off of Pulev's family table. Children will be starving.

On a serious note, this puts a test to whether these guys want to face him or not. If you're confident and you're not just not looking for a payday, taking 20% with the prospect of becoming champion and running your own show, shouldn't be a problem.

Compare that to Mayweather-Maidana split - less than 5% in Maidana's favour. Not that it was mandated though.
