Bigger rivalry? Benn vs Eubank or Froch vs Groves?

Benn & Eubank was obviously ridiculously fierce in the build up and in the fights themselves. Especially Nigel Benn, he really couldn't stand Eubank's demeanour.

He had a certain sense of arrogance about him, as if he was a better person than Nigel Benn, not just a better fighter.

I think that comparison can be made to the build up of the first Froch-Groves fight, with George Groves taking the role of Eubank. Similarly to Froch, Benn fought a wrong fight in my opinion, and wanted to win so badly that it hurt his performance.

Obviously a key difference being Froch actually won the first fight and Benn didn't.

Now British broadcasters like to compare every rivalry in the UK to Benn/Eubank - and if they are heavyweights - Lewis/Bruno.

Everytime I hear someone mention it, it reminds me of an old pop song that was good for about 5 minutes before I never wanted to hear it again. Ever.

Now - Which rivalry was biggest? And why?

i honestly cannot say. i was extremely young when those two fought.

benn was one of hte first fighters whose fights i collected. i had a PC in the late 90's with a ton of fights on it. this was back when it was very hard, and took a long time to download full fights. my house was hit by lightning, and i lost everything.

speed, titanic power, and a leaky defense. that's a recipe for amazing fights.

Benn-Eubank I had ratings of over 16 million. If you're talking about a rivalry that caught the public's imagination I'd probably go with them. The good old days of free-to-air fights.

The Benn/Eubank rivalry was bigger and more fierce. That divided a nation. I can't imagine if that was around today....it would be scary how big it would get because of the extra media coverage overseas, the lack of rivalries like that today, and the disparity between the two.

Yeah, subscription television has limited the appeal of Froch-Groves to the general British public. Most regular people don't know who they are but still remember Benn and Eubank.

Benn/Eubank. There was a build upf for this fight before they met. This fight was very anticipated in a bigger spectrum in the boxing world.

If the first fight with Froch and Groves didn't have such drama and outcome the second one wouldn't had been so anticipated.

            Good fights all around

i had the pleasure of watching benn v eubank live,,the rivalry was off the chart, eubank knew how to cover/move/box, he was the smart fighter on the night, benn wanted to kill him but ran out of gaz

i think gg looks at cf as another foe i really do,he under froch skin thats for sure,i think froch is beating himself up as he knows gg is not "world elite" & gg did a number on him,i think froch knows he cannot perform like hes 26 these days

if cf looses hes retired,gg can carry on,the pressure is on cf for me

But it had a lot of the same ingredients to it.

I remember that people thought Eubank was chinny when he met Benn, hadn't been in with the same quality, wasn't tough enough etc.

I don't think there was a public outcry to begin with for the first Benn/Eubank fight - just like Froch/Groves. But as the two got started.. oh boy.

                  That being said,

Benn/Eubank. Put the two in a room and it was just tension beyond belief.

Oh no there was definitely outcry from the get go. Everyone wanted to see it.

As for the question I think this fight next week is the biggest fight in the history of UK boxing.
