Canelo is a modern day warrior who has the balls to take on any fighter. He could have been pampered and given easy fights to make alot of money and earn new fans. He could have waited and fought floyd at the end of his six fight deal but decided to do so in floyds second fight of the showtime deal. Whenever boxing fans accuse him of ducking he fights that exact fighter. Trout, floyd,Angulo and now Lara. What canelo is trying to do is what ali, tyson, sugar ray Leonard and all the other greats did. which was to fight the best and beat the best to get to the top, no matter how many times you come up short.
Canelo old school fighter Mentality?

Called out Kirkland, Paul Williams and Martinez but people ignored that and still questioned his heart. Now those that doubted him can't say anything. That said I think Canelo knows that he needs to establish himself in the sport to warrant the hype he gets. -
He was rightfully criticized for the Matthew Hatton vacant title and the defenses against welterweights.
But he's more than made up for it. Now he's fighting everybody I want him to fight so I can't complain. I hope he goes the route of Oscar and keeps it up. Oscar took several losses but still was able to pack arenas and sell PPVs. Canelo can and will do the same.Comment

they're trying to move alvarez as quickly as they can. he's going to grow into a middleweight eventually, and although they can get him an easy title against quillin [who alvarez would f#Cking destroy,] he won't be the best at middleweight. at least he'd have to prove me wrong to be a long term champion at middleweight.
alvarez is a very good fighter. i'm comfortable saying that now. he's got a pretty sweet offense for a guy without great speed. he punches hard and is quite the offensive technician when he's got an opponent who doesn't use the ring. i love watching him fight, especially against aggressors. he's easy on the eyes, and i can see why goldenboy invested so much in him.
alvarez will be a 160 lber very soon. he'll look a lot less spectacular against the bigger guys at the world level. i do think he'll knock out the danny jacobs and the peter quillins of the world.
expect goldenboy to put him on simmer with some easy matches at middleweight. with all of this talk from chavez jr about wanting to leave arum, i can definitely see a catchweight fight between junior and alvarez down the road. that's a ppv fight, and would be one of the biggest fights in the history of mexican boxing. they could put it in a bullring with 100K people.
i can see alvarez making a boatload of money, and retiring in his early to mid 30's. he's got stuff going for him outside of boxing. you don't need to fight forever if you've got other options after you've made your money.Comment

After thinking about all the circumstances, I give Canelo his due credit.
His record could have been even better by now, remember when he was scheduled to fight Paul Williams but the fight never got made due to The Punisher suffering a terrible bike accident that left him paralyzed?
Then, he was about to fight Ortiz in what could have been a hell of a fight only to have those plans spoiled by Lopez, and to Canelo's credit he was a man of his word and fought the winner.
Also, he was on his way to fight Cotto for a big money fight, only to have those plans derailed by Trout? To his credit, he went on to fight Trout which most thought he'd lose to and ended up beating him in a close fight.
After all that, he went on to fight The P4P King, no shame in losing to TBE, and went on to redeem himself by beating the living crap out of a game Angulo. He's now facing the man EVERYBODY accused him of ducking. Can't knock the kid...he is doing what Oscar De La Hoya and other ATG's did to be considered legends.Comment

Both Canelo and Chavez becoming champion before being ready was what annoyed me more than anything. Usually you develop first and then become champion. Canelo become champion, and then continued to to take those development fights. For two straight years he had a bunch of bull**** defenses. It's good that he's finally stepping up his game though, but it most certainly does not mean he was ducking good comp for a while there. Same for Chavez before he fought Martinez. Their handlers didn't think they were ready.Last edited by DoktorSleepless; 05-24-2014, 04:56 PM.Comment
