People forget Martinez campaigned at 154 but was giving the chance to fight for the title at 160 that's why he moved up. He is possibly the smallest middle weight lenial champ ever. Only advantage he really has over cotto is the experience of fighting at that weight, but that should be no prob for cotto as he's been in the ring with the best. Martinez and his fans will be SHOCKED when they see cotto wearing Martinez down and eventually KO him in the late rounds. Cotto had underrated boxing skills, plus devastating power. I could argue that cotto is the best boxer Martinez has faced and the most powerful. Add that work roach and his ability to come up with a winning game plan= long night for Martinez
Cotto could not even handle the size and skill of Trout. Cotto will not be able to hurt Martinez and definitely cannot out box Martinez. Cotto is going to get knocked out.

Um.... Roach and Cotto wanted Martinez more after they saw his last performance against Murray.

Cotto is taking a huge risk in taking this fight. For his sake, I hope that his calculations are accurate in assessing Martinez' overall present athletic ability and skill because Sergio doesn't even have to be at full strength in order to defeat Miguel. He can be at 80 percent and still do a real number on him just on his physical ability alone. I just wish Miguel Cotto all the best because he is in for a real challenge against the naturally larger, stronger and faster Maravilla.

It's funny because Cotto and power was never used in previous articles ever to my knowledge. This despite the fact that in his lower weight days of 140lbs, he would absolutely wreck opponents and rearrange their faces. The majority of opponents he beat up so bad they wouldn't come off the stool for whatever rd it was. I remember be punched Branco so much in the arms that he quit off an arm injury or shoulder.
Paulie's jaw was broken and Cotto made Alfonso Gomez take a scary brutal beating before they ended it.
I don't see that same brutal, thudding power at the higher weights, but I still think Cotto hits hard enough to do damage and if he can accumulate enough, I don't think any opponent can soak it up for 12 rds straight. The question will be if he can land enough on Martinez who does move around a lot and has that awkward southpaw style...

If a guys gonna stand in front of Cotto, then yes he would be affected by the punches -- But wouldn't anybody?

The problem with this fight is Sergio is going to be moving and leading Cotto into traps and devastating (Middleweight) punches. Cotto has yet to face someone in the MW division and is in for a rude awakening.

This won't go the distance .... Maravilla in under 9rounds

I'm not worried at all because all Cotto is going to get beat up and knocked out. Dude couldn't even finish Margarito at a catch weight with a messed up eye. Cotto boxing ability won't allow him to avoid the punishment. I respect Cotto because he earned it over the years but Martinez is not just bigger but better than Cotto.
