Comments Thread For: Rios-Chaves, Vargas-Novikov Close For 8/2, HBO

Multiple sources have advised BoxingScene.com that an HBO televised doubleheader that will feature the return of Brandon Rios' (32-2-1) will take place on August 2nd in either Las Vegas, Nevada or Fresno, California.

An agreement is close to being reached for Rios to face Diego Chaves (23-1) of Argentina. Chaves burst onto the U.S. scene last July when he lost to Keith Thurman in San Antonio, Texas in an exciting fight. Even though he was stopped in the 10 round, Chaves put on a good show and stunned Thurman on a few occasions.

I hope this fight gets made! Chaves impressed me a ton in the Thurman fight. I say he'll stop Rios in the late rounds.

Chavez is massively overrated because he's a welterweight and is Argentinian. People just want another Matthysse and Maidana.

            I'm picking Rios.

A match-up to look forward to. Chaves really needs to make this one count.

I wish we could get Vargas-Khabib rematch. I thought Khabib won. I dunno why he didn't let his hands go earlier though.

Novikov fought on a couple of telemundo undercards, but I've never saw him fight

If Chaves wins this, we could have a new 'name' at 147.

I'd like to see him fight Provodnikov if he beats Rios

Yup, Rios is going to get pummeled. Chaves is unbelievably strong. To me he was Keith's true test. He's probably the strongest welterweight out there right now.
What do they put in the water in Argentina??

I liked what i saw from Chaves in the Thurman fight, and have been waiting to see him again. Got the making of a good action fight this one.
