  • Juan Diaz and his people have it all wrong!

Diaz is a chubby 135 pounder with no power...ultimately he will get seriously hurt against the likes of Castillo, Corrales, Lazcaqno and Diaz.

He could easily cut 5 pounds and fight at 130 and probably start knocking guys cold, plus the bigger money is there too, this is a golden opportunity-rarely do you get too move down and fight for much bigger money!

Diaz could fight Morales, Pac, MAB, Anchondo, Famouso...etc and probably have an edge because of his size...plus a fight with Morales would be a payperview fight....maybe the only payperview opportunity of his life-and all he needs to do is lose five pounds...

What do peopele think...do diaz's people need to wake up and smell the money, not too mention protect there fighter from serious injury...it's an all in one deal, money-safety or less money and death...what do you guys/gals think?

No i disagree. What just because he's a little chubby he should move down he's got good stamina. It wouldn't be any different at 130 against the best there too fast for him.The reason why he would lose is because he would get cauht while he throws a bunch of his punches.

I'd rather get caught by Morales on payperview than I would by Diego or JL on HBO.

I agree, he may not have alot of power, but if he applies pressure without stopping to the body, the ribs, etc.. are gonna feel it evuentally. Last night I kept wishing he'd go to the body more cause that guy had never been knocked out before, and I didnt think a head shot was gonna get the job done. So, if he had kept working that body, all night long, evuentally he may have broken a rib or two and then the fight would have been over. Just cause he doesnt have alot of power does not mean he can compete with the best of them ONE DAY..he's not ready for the likes of Corrales or Castillo yet, not in my opinion, but he's still young with plenty of time and potential.

I think if he stepped it up more he could of stopped him earlier especially when the guy was on the ropes doing nothing. When he put together 4 and 5 rapid punches he would stun or wobble Irwin but then he would step back. That's my only complaint about his performance last night.
He's not ready for Castillo or Corrales but if he keeps improving with his style he will eventually give anybody a tough time even if he doesn't have enough power to knock a guy out with one punch. I don't think his opponents should underestimate his punching power either because when he puts those combinations together they could find themselves wobbling around the ring.

you don't need to be a big puncher if you're landing above 30 punches per round, especially to the body. not many fighters can survive a hardcore body attack. Guys like Jirov are not big punchers but they wear their opponents down with an accumulation of punches, Diaz can do the same. i really like Diaz, but he needs better D if he's gonna try and hang with heavy hitters like Corrales, the baby bull isn't ready yet but he could be in a year or two. the kid's still young, he's nowhere near his prime yet

I'm surprised with what everyone has said...really surprised..

So all of you would rather see Juan Diaz fight Diego or JL for 150K on HBO and get his face caved in as opposed to going after a payperview fight worth a cool million vs. Morales...hmmm

The volume puncher that Diaz is makes him the slight favorite against Morales in my book...HE has no chance of winning against Corrales or Castillo...no chance!

As a young champion with 2 defenses already under his belt he is going to have to step it up against other champions or top guys like Lazcano who want a title belt...I envision him becoming a David Ried or a Fernando Vargas...HE is so young yet he is a champion which is going to lead him into deep water sooner rather than later.

I think his promoters know what they are doing with him. They know that he is not ready for Corrales or Castillo yet. I read that his next fight could be against Ebo Elder so that lets me know they are not trying to ruin him by matching him up with the fighters that he is not ready for. I also saw that he failed to make weight the first time around for this fight so maybe 130 wouldn't be easy for him to make.

I think scap makes the best case. He's a professional boxer. If he trains well, looses a few pounds, he might fair well. The weight loss isn't drastic either. And he gets to make more money.

Ebo Elder won't be an easy fight. He's not a great fighter, but that is one tough little ****er. Did you see his last fight? Face swollen up so bad he looked even more inbred than normal, beaten soundly for 12 rounds, yet still pulled out the KO in the last round.
If I were trying to prime a fighter in the lightweights, Ebo Elder is someone I would avoid just because of his toughness. He could really kill the confidence of a young fighter.
