Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr. Waiting on Offer From Arum For Sept. 13

To put a sizeable dent in Floyd's ppv #s...
Do the math bro..
Sept 13 - Mex Independence Day
Chavez is Mexican...does great #s and puts asses in seats..it's fair to assume that the convincing win over the 2nd Vera fight certainly helped his cause
Mayweather is NOT Mexican, last fight he was supposed to walk through his opponent and completely dominate him...he won, but the victory was far from being 'one sided'...even if he were to rematch Maidana, Maidana ain't Mex...
In order to understand the Mexican market, you need to understand its people...Mexicans have fierce pride when it comes to their culture and when given a choice will support their own 99.9% of the time....
Mexican Market = mucho $$....ask ANY promoter, not just boxing....
In conclusion, it seems pretty viable to put Chavez up against Mayweather PPV provided he has a decent opponent...and fill the undercard with Mex fighters as well....I think they can give Mayweather a run for his money, pun intended....
Ahhh...free market enterprises, huh?Last edited by livershot73; 05-23-2014, 12:12 PM.Comment

The difference is that Floyd needs to sell 1.1 to break even. Because his guaranteed is over 30 mill (plus the overpayd Haymon's fighters in the undercard). Chavez/Canelo can get away with selling 350k and there's a profit. Showtime is in trouble Floyd ran out of oponents, who can generate those numbers. And if the Chavez fight is on regular HBO forget about it. Showtime needs Pacquiao or the Martinez/Cotto winner, in order to make a profit.Comment

Same thoughts here Ravens fan, it was not Arum at all, it is the same old story with Golovkin's opponents, they all find a way out of fighting him.I have admit I am a little confused. Junior would not fight for Arum against GGG in July because of of a contract beef that he has with Arum himself. But now that GGG possibly may be out of the picture Junior is now willing to fight for Arum in September, what? So, was Arum really the problem or was it actually GGG?Comment

Im pretty sure the fight in sept. will not have a contract extension attached to it. I also think since the opponent isnt GGG, Jr. wont be asking for a giant payday.I have admit I am a little confused. Arum won't be ****** enough to schedule a fight on the same night as a Mayweather PPV event.. As for Chavez, I hope he does what he says and refuses to sign an extension with Arum. He can make a lot more money on the open market.Comment

Where did you hear the rumor of Haymon offering his $47 million? How can Haymon offer any kind of guarantee? He has to negotiate the terms of the agreement with the promoter and network. Haymon is an advisor. There is no way Haymon can guarantee anyone a certain amount of money for a certain amount of fights.rumor is Haymon was offering him 47 million.
Arum won't match that nor would HBO put up that kind of money. if Chavez tries to leave before his contract expires he'll be sued, because we all know you don't F with Uncle Bob.
Even Mayweather paid Arum to get out his contract with him
Floyd Mayweather Jr. rejected promoter Bob Arum's $8 million offer to fight welterweight titlist Antonio Margarito, and he instead exercised a provision in his contract to buy Arum out.
basically Chavez just killed his career. when he fights for Arum again, ol' Bob is going to throw him to the wolves and milk him for every cent. by the time Haymon gets him, he won't be worth piss.
On another note, Chavez can fight Alvarez and get a $15 million guarantee plus a percentage of the PPV. He can get $7 million to fight GGG without Arum. He can get $7 to $10 million to fight the winner of Froch/Groves and at least $5 million to fight Ward. Arum can't or won't put him in the ring with any of these fighters except GGG. Chavez would be wise to leave Arum and become a free agent.Last edited by big_james10; 05-23-2014, 03:33 PM.Comment
