I just found this spanish interview from a a couple months ago.

They operated my knee on Octobre and I was on crutches until December 18, right before I went to Buenos Aires for the festivities.

Or maybe he was talking about the surgery after Chavez. I don't know.

Just wrote this on another post, but I wanna make sure I'm heard lol

Truth is, even though Martinez was unable to move or train for a year, he should have no problem getting to 159. In reality, Martinez is not much bigger than cotto. People forget Martinez campaigned at 154 but was giving the chance to fight for the title at 160 that's why he moved up. He is possibly the smallest middle weight lenial champ ever. Only advantage he really has over cotto is the experience of fighting at that weight, but that should be no prob for cotto as he's been in the ring with the best. Martinez and his fans will be SHOCKED when they see cotto wearing Martinez down and eventually KO him in the late rounds. Cotto had underrated boxing skills, plus devastating power. I could argue that cotto is the best boxer Martinez has faced and the most powerful. Add that work roach and his ability to come up with a winning game plan= long night for Martinez

Even if he so, I would think you need more than 6 months off crutches to be prepared for a boxing match... I could be wrong but the fact that he was even on crutches that long is not a good sign.

***, who knows. I just hope his knee doesn't blow out in the middle of the fight like Yuri Foreman's did.

Martinez knee should be stronger and more stable than it has ever been.

yes i know he injured it twice but with the 1st injury he took a more conservative approach and didn't opt for reconstruction. plus he came back from that injury too soon.

this time around he had the surgery and took the proper amount of time off. if he rehabbed properly he should be totally fine and as good as ever. he will have pain though because one of the side effects of that surgery is early on set arthritis. that shouldn't effect him in the ring because arthritis doesn't hurt as much when in motion.

I'm interested to see what happens. this is the FOY for me.

People don't realize how small Cotto is compared to previous Martinez opponents. If Martinez could handle the power of 185 lb guys like Pavlik and Chavez, he should have no trouble handling that of a 165 lb guy like Cotto.
He had 5 fights at 154, 3 of them finished with tko. Isn't that powerful enough? In addition, delvin Rodriguez had faced very good opposition at 154, yet he was never stopped until he faced cotto. I give the edge to cotto because fredie roach. He is a master at coming up with a great plan of attack plus he gets the very best offensively from his fighters. Add that with Martinez weak chin, age and health, why not cotto by KO. And please don't ever put Pavlik or Chavez in the same sentence as cotto. Both got power but neither have half the boxing skills cotto have

Cotto is going to take the worst beating he's ever experienced in his life.

His stoppages at 154 were over Yuri Foreman (good win), Delvin Rodriguez (not a top fighter), old Mayorga, and a Margarito who's eye was destroyed by Pacquiao. Pavlik and Chavez were both legitimate top level middleweights. That's something Cotto is not.
Rodriguez was #1 contender for one of the major belt organization, I forget which one, so he's no bum either. I'm not arguing cotto has more power than either Chavez or Pavlik, I'm saying what good is having the power if you can't land. Neither of them can box and barely landed on Martinez. Cotto can box and will deft land more than both of them combined. Plus, cotto will have extra muscle weight to carry around which will result into more power. Martinez has been knocked down it seems in all his fights. If cotto gets him down, he's not Murray, he will finish Martinez.

Guess it all depends on Sergio's knee holding up, but I would say that even a 70% Martinez beats a 100% Cotto.
