I like Gamboa but maybe if he got off his ass and fought more than two times in three years he'd be better prepared plain and simple.

It is not an excuse. It just doesn't say much about Crawford's performance. It was thrilling, that doesn't mean it proved anything.

OK, keep doubting and he will keep winning. Arum isn't putting this kind of stock in him because he is a fluke. Bradley said he was better than almost any pro he had ever sparred against. Take that for what it's worth but this guy is the goods and he won't be going away anytime soon.

Credit to both men, it was a great fight. That said, I can't say I'm a fan of some of the matchmaking as far as Top Rank/HBO goes. They seem so opportunistic to me in the way they put their prized fighters in there with other, less lucrative guys who may have a great record or reputation, but appear vulnerable in some way. They finally give Martinez the Cotto fight after he comes off a 14 month layoff, multiple surgeries, and his worst performance in years. And you can just imagine them dancing around the room whenever it became clear that Cotto was dominating. Now they put Gamboa in there (hey! Gamboa! Gold medal, undefeated record!) with a guy who is far bigger than he is, with a far longer reach than he has, making him come up a weight class right when he hasn't looked great in his last fight or two and hasn't fought more than twice in the past two years combined. And once again, it works. Gamboa was outboxing Crawford until he got caught, then the size and power disparity became clear. Gamboa definitely fought reckless and ******, but that's beside the point. This isn't a personal grudge; I love Cotto and I like Crawford too. I just think it's sad. Yeah, it's these fighters' own faults for signing, but with the money they're being offered, what else can you expect them to do?

If they felt that Rigondeaux was at all vulnerable, he'd be getting sacrificed in a heartbeat too. They'd move him up and throw him in there with Lomachenko. But they won't, because they don't feel confident that it would work. ****, this sport is infuriating sometimes.

Props to Crawford, his size advantage and proper adjustments paid dividends in the later rounds.

The money is in the higher divisions. Gamboa just took a chance for the more lucrative fights. He's accomplished a lot at featherweight but there isn't much money in those lower weight classes.

But now its time to go back down, get a trainer and use his skills. He will be out of the sport quickly with a few more fights like this one.

True, especially to not jump in to try and land a punch. Gamboa throws short punches on the inside with absolutely no power; his inside game is severely lacking. He also gets really frustrated because he is so superior, physically that when he isn't successful, he gets careless trying to gain ground. That is his biggest problem.....his mentality.

He had to jump in tonight tho, but if he goes back down i hope he gets a trainer so he can be told the ****** **** he does and improve what his game is lacking. If he doesn't get his **** together go down in weight and get a trainer he should just retire i dont want to see him repeating tonight until he is ruined.

Hey great post man. No one forced him to take the fight. He looked like a million bucks early on so I can't accept that as an excuse. He just faced a guy that could adapt and switch it up tonight. I'd give you green but I'm all tapped out for today.

It's not an excuse man, I am not a fan of either guy so I have no dog in this fight, but there was a very obvious size difference during the fight. Gamboa was outboxing him at first(when he looked "like a million bucks"), but after he got knocked down he wanted to fight Macho and this never benefits the smaller guy. He was often landing first but he wasn't able to hurt Crawford while Crawford was able to hurt him at will and you can't say that that is not an effect of the size difference. Crawford did what he had to do, but the size difference is hard to ignore when trying to access the importance of this win, people will inevitably mention it.

That being said, props to both guys for putting on a great fight. One of the best fights of the year as far as I am concerned.

First of all congratulations to Terence Crawford for that win. I picked Gamboa too, but people should show respect to this guy and not make excuses to discredit his win.

What's really disturbing (in a positive way) is that this was only Crawford's second scheduled 12 rounder. The first time was against Burns in his title win and it was also the first time he went the distance. Crawford could've picked his local pizza delivery guy for an easy first defense, but he jumped right in with a proven talent in Gamboa.

At this point it definitely seems he is a future super star. Then again it's boxing and one loss may change a fighter for ever.

Never said he was a fluke, but the idea that this fight shows he is a future P4P guy? Yeah, I don't see it. If he did this to a top guy at 140, then we are talking. But that has to happen first.
