Comments Thread For: Espinoza: Showtime Wants A Unified Champ at 175

Even with the prospect of a bigger fight awaiting with a win in your next assignment, fighters will almost never admit to looking past their current opponent. Adonis Stevenson has talked plenty about the future, but hasn’t had much to say about anything other than beating Andrzej Fonfara, whom he faces on May 24 in Montreal.

The bout marks Stevenson’s debut with American premium cable network Showtime, after having fought three straight times on rivaling HBO in 2013 and was being floated as that network’s franchise fighter. It was believed that Stevenson was on a collision course to face unbeaten Sergey Kovalev, but instead opted for more money being offered by Showtime.

Unfortunately, I doubt Kovalev and his management turn their backs on HBO, and I highly doubt Hopkins or Stevenson leave Showtime to make it happen.

Yeah, considering Main Events is suing Haymon, et al., I wouldn't expect them to leave HBO anytime soon.

Kovalev should forget about fighting Stevenson for now and fight some top 10 light heavies. Braehmer and Chilemba would be good choices.

I dunno, maybe Al will think a unification with Kovalev is worth the money to set Duva's feud with him aside. The guy signed Paulie after Paulie went off on him publicly multiple times.

Personally I think the scenario of Stevenson or Hopkins unifying the belts and then have a mega-unification with Kovalev was smarter in the long run. Duva was thinking short term.

so basically IF karma hits and Stevenson loses, they'll match him up with Pascal while Hopkins fights Fonfara
