Thurman is a very good fighter but he isn't anything that Mayweather hasn't seen and whipped in the last 10 years. He also needs more polishing. Porter makes Maidana look gentle with his opponents. He's custom built for whipping Mayweather, that's why he won't fight him now. He's also very polished at what he does best. He already saw the Maidana fight and knows the blue print and that he is better at it than Maidana. He knows who he is and what he's suppose to do with his advantages. A GREAT boxer with a POWERFUL jab is his only kryptonite and I don't see any of those around currently. Khan has a style that comes close though.

They are both good but Porter is a full champion and has a win over Alexander which tops any Thurman win. I think Porter should get the fight. In the good old days when fighters fought 4 to 5 times a year Porter could fight Thurman with the winner to fight Mayweather. Now they would say there is not enough time to promote the Mayweather fight.

porter has a mandatory next with brook.

mayweather will probably rematch maidana in september.

providing both win then floyd-porter for title unification next may makes sense.

in the meantime thurman could fight khan and the winner of that starts to look a lot better for a shot at the money.

I think you have got something there. Porter is a very strong guy and he uses that strength to bully his opponents without overdoing it to where the ref takes a point away. He probably would bully Mayweather more than Maidana did. Porter is a fast heavy puncher with both hands and hits at least as hard as Thurman. Nobody ever took the rugged Paulie apart so quickly and easily.

Porter isn't a big puncher, don't let that performance against Pauli fool you

Well he rocked Alexander and knocked out Pauli two guys with proven chins so he must have some power there.

Who does more for Mayweather's perception since people seem to think Mayweather has to prove himself vs young guns rather than someone like Thurman picking up a win over a legitimate threat?

Who do you think would win?

Would you give Mayweather credit for fighting either of these guys and winning?
                      Porter deserves Mayweather.

I think Porter actually poses more threat than Thurman because of his style.

Mayweather would win against these two.

Yep, they're better than Guerrero and Ortiz. More or less better than Maidana.
