Merchant was fired from HBO because he thought his opinion was more important than the fighters on HBO. HBO paid the price. If the devil wanna dance you better say never, cause a dance with the devil might last you forever.

merchant is in his mid 80's. i'll be hard pressed to be alive in my 80's.


i'm sure he was looking to cut back on his duties. it's also much easier to work on a radio broadcast than it is to be on TV.

Not sure it really lightened his workload. Before he was only doing the Wold Champion Boxing telecasts (not Boxing after Dark) on HBO, but now he's on every major Top rank card.

I wish he would retire. His post fight interview with Marquez last night was a joke, his questions were awful and painfully slow. No wonder Floyd lost it with him.

He's painfully slow because he believes he's some kind of intellectual. In reality, he is an old bitter hater that messed with HBO's money. Commentators are not supposed to play favorites and divide fans. They are supposed to give unbiased commentary. Merchant was the definition of a nuthugging slug. Now his legacy is nonexistent. Ultimately the joke is on him.
