    I thought Larry Merchant retired?

But now he commentates for HBO's international broadcast feed. Isn't that more like a demotion?

It's not for HBO, it's for Top Rank.

He got fired from HBO, and Showtime won't hire him. Why he got the axe from HBO? (of course, they'll publicly soften it by letting Merchant say he wanted to leave or retire, yeah right). Happened after HBO lost Floyd Mayweather to Showtime. They probably figured guys like Merchant didn't help their case with all his negative energy.

Fairly sure he commentated for HBO2 last year.

Would rather listen to him than Kellerman, at least Merchant keeps it real without all the faux drooling and hyperbole.

He did retire, but decided to work with the Colonel on some top rank broadcasts. Lighter workload. He is old folks. His loves what he has done but needs a good rest in between.

merchant is in his mid 80's. i'll be hard pressed to be alive in my 80's.

i'm sure he was looking to cut back on his duties. it's also much easier to work on a radio broadcast than it is to be on TV.

                  this.

and he probably gets a modest, but nice paycheck for two day's worth of work and traveling.

Yep he "retired" from HBO and just does occasional stuff now

He was great he asked fighters stuff normal people would ask them instead of just polishing their egos
