It will be interesting to see who is the "A" side of the fight. Manny's PPV numbers have been low against both Rios and Bradley, and Bradley II was one of Manny's lowest live gates to date. So obviously Marquez is just as big of a draw if not more than Manny. If I'm Marquez, I accept no less than 50/50 and I don't fight in Macau, but somewhere that my country men/women can be there to support me (maybe Texas). Marquez did KO Manny and just gave a brilliant performance against Alvarado. Marquez's problem, however, is that he has no other opponent that is PPV worthy in Top Rank's stable.

LOL...marquez still fights on regular hbo , pac's last fight on regular cable channel was probably almost a decade ago so obviously they are far apart in terms of drawing power and stardom so asking for 50/50 is pricing himself out .
The A side will never be marquez, not that it matters since pac does not ask for any advantage and let's bob do the venue picking

My $0.03 as to why this fight won't happen...

1. Marquez will not take the fight. Money should be out of the question as JMM is deff more than comfortable at this stage in his career and we don't hear or see anything to make us think otherwise. So the money won't matter much. I feel he has hinted at the chance of fighting Pac again only to see how much $$$ they will throw at him and unless they offer him a ridiculous amount of $$$ to make him be willing to possibly lose the air of greatness he has from K.O.ing Pac how he did, he aint gunna fight. The legacy of that K.O. can only be comprimised by a shameless sum of money so unless we hear 15 - 20 mill I don't see JMM agreeing.

2. Marquez will not fight Pac in Macau where Pac would have the home advantage in regards to the crowd support. To give Pac that edge would just be ******. If this fight happens it will be in the U.S. JMM would want Mexico but that wouldn't happen, so he would be ok with the U.S. but in the Asias is out of the question.

3. Arum doesn't think the fight will get made, he is just doing his job by trying to cash out. His days with Manny may be numbered so he will try and make the most he can off him before he potentially leaves to sign with a new promoter and Manny vs Marquez is his best option by far. But because Marquez will want so much to fight, the potential of them losing money due to the fight maybe not selling would clash with Marquez request for a large sum of money. All in all I don't see this fight materializing.

That is the big fight he can make and I am sure that is the fight his backers in Macau want, so I am sure he does feel that way.

I can see why people are a bit tired of the rivalry (and I do personally like the way it bookends currently with the awesome start by Manny in the first fight and then the awesome ending by JMM in the fourth) but the fights are mostly pretty good with lots of solid punches landing so there are worse things in the world.


I think the JMM not wanting the fight was/is him playing hardball to get paid which he should do.

If I am Marquez I squeeze Arum and Top Rank to get the fight on my terms. There are no other big fights that they can make for Manny right now in the Top Rank stable and the Mayweather Jr. fight is not happening.
I would force a 50/50 split, make Pac come down in weight, hell make him fight in Mexico city. Marquez has the leverage because Pac really doesn't have any other viable options and Marquez can sit back and say "my KO in the last fight is how I want the rivalry to be remembered" until he gets what he wants.

If that big population buys $10 PPV, it could rival overpriced US PPV revenue. Pacquiao-Marquez V would be excellent to test it out.
