Hopkins Speaks on why he's fighting Tarver

Just heard Hopkins on the radio speaking about the fight.

My issue, is that despite thinking Bernard narrowly won both Taylor fights, it's clear that at his age he's only capeable of throwing so many shots a round. It was clear that he makes up for that by using ring savvy, clinching, and slowing the pace of his opponent.

Tarver imo is over rated, and not very special. But he's bigger and younger than Hopkins, and he takes a good shot. The way to beat Tarver is to out work him, wear him down, and win more rounds.

This sounds like everything that Hopkins isn't capeable of doing at this point late in his career.

I wondered why he would take this fight, which I don't see as very win-able for him, and he was asked that on this radio show.

He said straight up that he's weighing 165 right now, and that he needs to put on 10lbs which won't be a problem. He then said he has very good sources telling him Tarver is as high as 210 - 215 lately, and he feels Tarver is going to kill himself (ala Jones) to make the 175 lb limit. He said he feels this really evens out the playing field, and that he's motivated to win the Lt Heavy title as his swan song and exit fight.

    I hadn't thought about this.

Does Nard have a chance here?

i think he stands a pretty good chance of winning the bout... bhop has great defense... and if tarver gets tired like he did on the 3rd jones-tarver fight... hop will wear him down even more... i say bhop ko in the 11th...

Hopkins should stop fighting. But I still think he can win.

imo tarver is really sloppy and he was able to get away with it against jones cause he was gun shy but i doubt he'll be able to get away with it against hopkins

I don't like Hopkins'chance. Hopkins is slow and lookin old (though still amazing considering his age) at 160lbs. Moving up 15lbs won't help him. I don't think Hopkins' type of fight really makes Tarver tired. Glen Johnson can MAKE Tarver tired, but not B-Hop.

            I'd pick Tarver to win.

I think Nard has a chance and his ring saavy shuld help him alot. Tarver does tend to wait alot and that is just want Hopkins wants. It will be a tough fight for Hopkins but I think he has a chance at beating Tarver. I have never seen anyone beat up on Hopkins. Plus Tarver is pretty heavy right now and Hopkins should be able to last longer in the fight than Tarver.

Call me ****** but I believe Hopkins can do it

You thought Hopkins won the 2nd fight with Taylor?!?! Wow. I scored the first 6 rounds for Taylor. I thought it was a clearcut victory.
