Boxers do not get enough respect from their own fans

I don't think some posters understand how tough of a sport Boxing is,it is not like other sports where you can call timeout or go to the bench. And in this sport even when you are tired, you are getting hit in the head and body, pushed back and beat on.

You can it's called throwing in the towel and quitting. Nobody is forcing anybody to box but yes they deserve our upmost respect for something I wouldn't volunteer to put myself through for anything less than mayweathers paycheck!

Broken nose, cracked rib, eye closed shut, these guys for the most part still move forward.... Other athletes get a small cut, sprained ankle and go to the locker room and it is a big deal, they do not even have to return and it is ok... A boxers get his face broke, body busted up and he i EXPECTED to continue and not on continue but come forward and fight!!!

No doubt it's tough but you wouldn't take a beating in the ring for less than what Mayweather gets paid? For 100k i'd happily get KTFO by Wlad. 100K is a lot of money for someone like me.

Every Boxer deserves respect for getting in that squared circle and fighting.

great thread and 100% accurate. boxing fans dont respect the sport enough or the fighters participating in it. btw i hate the "they choose to do it" excuse, it makes no sense. so because you choose to do something extraordinary and brave you shouldnt get credit? but if you have no choice you should? i cant be the only person this makes no sense to whatsoever.

besides, by that logic we shouldnt show any appreciation to firemen or war heroes either. they generally chose to do those things to. jesus chose to give his life for out sins (if you believe such a thing), i guess he wasnt s*it neither.

I have the utmost respect for fighters. The time they put in the gym, the road work. The abstaining from almost anything pleasurable while training. These guys/gals are modern day gladiators. Respect them to the fullest.

You're comparing boxers to people that save peoples lives?

                    I agree.

We tend to ignore reason due to our blind fanaticism.

We call our warriors ****** for giving in to demands and fighting anyone.

Put the drug addicts on pedestals.

Live off of would of could of scenarios.

Praise fighter wins even when they put their opponents at disadvantages, ie. Catch weights in some cases.
