Tomoki Kameda vs Pungluang Sor Singyu on Canelo/Lara undercard?

Earlier today we learned that the WBO Bantamweight title contest between the unbeaten champion Tomoki Kameda (29-0, 18) and mandatory challenger Pungluang Sor Singyu (46-2, 31) had been moved again.

The bout has been one of the longest running saga's in boxing with multiple changes in venue and date and in fact 2 cancelled purse bids. Thankfully however all seems to be sorted and we believe we have, finally, got the complete details of the bout.

From what we understand the bout will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, we admit that's an odd venue for a bout between a Japanese fighter and a Thai but it's neutral and it gives both men a huge chance to expose themselves to a whole new international audience.

As well as the venue we believe the date has been all but confirmed as July 12th.

If you've put 2 and 2 together you'll probably have worked out that that means the contest has been added to the undercard of Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's bout with Erislandy Lara which will be one of the biggest cards in the US this year thanks to the insane popularity that Canelo gets.

Whilst it may seem like an odd bout to have on the undercard of the Canelo/Lara bout it needs to be noted that Canelo Promotions is the promoter behind the Kameda/Pungluang bout, and so it makes perfect sense to have the bout on the show especially considering that it's an exciting looking match up that will be cheap to cover the cots for.

We're really hoping that this will be the final news on this bout until we get to hear which officials have been assigned for the contest.
    Thoughts on this?

The second best world title fight involving a Thai in coming weeks...the best, by a long way, is on May 31st

Wtf? Not that I'm against it but what's GB getting out of this fight? Odd fight to have in the US. But I'm always for new fighters being exposed to the US fanbase tho.

Tomoki can't fight in Japan at the moment and there was no chance the Kameda team were taking this fight in Thailand. They were wanting Mexico as a "neutral" venue (despite Tomoki having a fan base there). Canelo Promotions agree to put the bout on though probably figured it would make a cheapish contest to put on this card...

GB are getting a cheap world title bout and likely able to get the winners next fight...or something

Interesting contest, I always figured the Kameda's would want to fight in the US a bit they have fought in Mexico a bit so expanding their horizons a bit north makes some sense.

Plus with the Kameda's issues in Japan overall it is good to have some options open and getting a powerful friend in the US puts them less at the mercy of Japanese boxing's rather strict policies.

The JBC stripped their license after the issue with Daiki Kameda not losing his IBF title for his loss to Liborio Solis. The JBC claim Koki threatened JBC staff members and they have no Gym any more with the head honcho's at the "Kameda Gym" being permanently banned from the sport for lying to the JBC about the situation.

Thanks, I didn't see that question. I don't think they got the lifetime ban solely for that incident but it was more like the straw that broke the camels backs.

They had been skating on thin ice for a while, based on all the things I read from Joe Koizumi.
