Comments Thread For: Arum: Alvarado Trained In Ring, Not Bars, For Marquez

Bob Arum considers Juan Manuel Marquez-Mike Alvarado a 50-50 fight.

The International Boxing Hall of Fame promoter might not feel that way if he wasn’t convinced Alvarado is taking training more seriously for their 12-round, 143-pound clash Saturday night than he has even for some of his other big bouts. Coming off a technical knockout loss to Russia’s Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2, 16 KOs) on Oct. 19 in Broomfield, Colo., Alvarado apparently has preparedly properly to meet Marquez, nearly a 3-1 favorite despite that he’ll be the smaller man when they square off at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. (HBO; 10 p.m. ET/PT). [Click Here To Read More]

I hope Alvarado wins. Marquez is a sucker for turning down Ruslan for Alvarado. I feel for Ruslan. He beat he **** out of Bradley and Alvarado, and he can't get Manny or Marquez. He gets Algeri? Really?

Last time I checked he wasn't signed to top rank, and Manny and Marquez aren't the only two fighters out there. His people could go after fights with Matthysse, Peterson, and Garcia. Vargas now has a paper strap too, but Provos people rather to after a 40 year old and over the hill Manny.

Ruslan is with Banner Promotions, but his promoter said Ruslan will only fight on HBO. You can read it here:

Ruslan Provodnikov’s world title win over Mike Alvarado on Saturday night opens up plenty of doors for him, making him a more marketable name at junior welterweight (the division in which he won his title), as well as at welterweight (the division at which he went to war with Timothy Bradley earlier this year). Yet the Banner Promotions fighter shouldn’t be expected to appear on Showtime against Golden Boy’s crop of 140- and 147-pound stars, according to Banner’s Artie Pelullo. “Right now we’re fighting with HBO and only HBO,” Pelullo told BoxingScene.com after Provodnikov’s victory. “That’s what we choose to do. We’re dedicated to HBO. HBO gave us a chance.”

By eliminating all GBP and Showtime fighters, he needs Manny or Marquez to get the big dollars.

What people fail to realize is listen to whats being said, he is training in the ring and not in bars..WTF ? Quick note, several years ago there was going to be a fight between shane mosley and zab judah(judah put his arm through a window and the fight got scrapped with less than a couple of weeks out), i remember at the press conf zab was stating how he has rededicated himself and he is 100% focused etc.. and when Mosley took to the podium he said that is fine and dandy, but i've been living a clean life since i started, i dont party, i train everyday, i have been 100% dedicated - so my point is, JMM has been a proffessional since day 1, Alverado has cut his career short by lack of discipline, and JMM is going to beat him. This lack of focus and discipline is what snatches the championship rounds, what helps you weather the storm it gives you the confidence to press the action, speed up the tempo etc.. i guess mile high mike did not get tje memo

If Alvarado's mind and body is over the Provodnikov assault, he can ruin JMM.
