The fight was clearly stopped too soon, so I struggle to follow that logic a little bit.
Froch keeps saying he came on strong in rounds 7, 8 & 9 - but he didn't. He clearly lost both rounds 7 & 8 and he was hurt by a jab in round 9 before the round was stopped.
It was atrocious refereeing.
Anyways, I agree with Khan. It's a 50/50 fight. You also have to think about the amount of damage Froch took as well as he's 37 or so now.
You know me and your cards differ,so I'll just say agree to disagree..
My logic is Groves was badly hurt, far worse then at any point of the fight for Froch..Groves not only looked hurt,he looked spent..It was about to be all she wrote for him..I do agree that the ref was horrible for stopping the bout tho..

I'm also a bit mystified to this popular consensus of opinion that froch was coming on strong and breaking groves down in those rounds. I think it's a flawed perception that comes from looking at those rounds in comparison with groves early dominance. In my opinion groves got greedy with his own success and too macho, trying to fight back when he should have been covering up. He is the evolving fighter in this match, improving considerably with each performance. I think he is the one more capable of making adjustments and learning from the last fight.
Also as happens frequently in football were the referee subconsciously tries to even up a dodgy decision, he could get a favour or two from the officials on the night.
It's been years since I've watched the Lewis- Holyfield fights but I remember thinking the judging in the second fight was influenced by the stink around the judging of the first fight. And for my money the judging if the first froch-groves fight was worse than the refereeing.
Groves is going to look good in the first couple rounds before Froch takes over with his pressure making Groves get sloppy and loose his game plan. TKO 9 Froch
'The match was swinging in Froch's way and he was on route to get a stoppage' is a complete farce. How do you know, George Groves, was going to be stopped? Do you have the power of foresight? He looked tired, but in no manner was he out on his feet. Another British referee ruining what was a great fight. I hope the rematch lives up to the first fight in terms of action, may the better man win, and lets hope those that will be officiating and the referee do not spoil the outcome of the fight.
