And $7 million with the extension, with his next fight a minimum of either $10m (if he won) or $5m (if he lost). From my understanding it was only a one fight extension?? If so its not like he was singing his life away. Good luck making that kind of money against Bika and Andre Ward.

Yup it was a 1 fight extension, which would have made him either 12 or 17 million dollars in purses for 2 fights.

I wonder if Al Haymon is involved in this in any way. Seems like Chavez has other options.

Seriously, what more does he want? He wants major money and to become a free agent, well that's not how things work. Not to mention that Top Rank has groomed him from the start and despite using his dad's name and legacy they have been supportive through all the weight/drug issues. So instead he will sit out for over a year, sounds like another ****** decision by Chavez, one of many in his career. Who on earth can Haymon get for him for that sort of money?? Getting beat by Stevenson at LHW doesn't seem all that smart.

I think Chavez realized that him taking an ass whooping wouldn't be beneficial for his career.

do all promoters work like this though this is a serious question do they only offer like a 1/3 of the fighters worth if they dont sign an extension? I could see giving extra for an extension but not ripping off the fighter but is this wide spread practice?
