Broner has needed a bit of a stern talking to for a while, but a years ban for what he said is a little steep.
What he said was unnecessary and a little bit out of line considering the weekend etc but lets be real he wasnt being racist. If I was a pro fighter and a guy who beat me claimed to have 'beat the **** out of a European' I wouldnt get on my high horse about it at all. It isn't racist to describe someone by using the correct term for what they are, it is racist to use the terms in a derogatory way...
Adrien didn't do that, he was just doing his ****** CAN-MAN rap thing, and so I think a ban is a little harsh, a fine and a warning would have been better.
And I'm not defending him here coz I think he is an absolute idiot, I do not care about his situation, just think a year ban is a bit steep for describing a Mexican as a Mexican.
What he said was ignorant but wasn't racist in any way. This ruling is bull****. He could have been fined "maybe" but a suspension is overboard. F**k the WBC, the WBO isn't even a legit org and Oscar wouldn't even care if Broner didn't say a Mexican !
I don't really get "offended" by stuff people say or participate in "public outcry", but I agree with disciplinary actions just because boxing is already too much about saying whacky stuff for attention/money. Broner takes undeserved hype to new lows.
These guys are also used to race trolling hippie white america where people are just like "oh haha you're so right sir! we suck!". I don't think most Mexicans especially those in boxing are so spineless. He should have expected this.
thats the whole point of boxing buddy, its an individual sport. Therefore individualism shouldnt be punished.
I cant stand Broner, but what he does draws attention to an otherwise ignored niche sport.
