Comments Thread For: Canelo: I'd Make 154 For a Title, Not For Interim Belt!

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has chosen the toughest challenge available to him as he will face off with Erislandy Lara on July 12th on Showtime pay per view in Las Vegas, NV.

Alvarez’s reign at Junior Middleweight was sidelined last September when Alvarez lost to Floyd “Money” Mayweather but he’s getting back on track and beating Lara would put him right back at the top.

Canelo by stoppage. 8th or 10th. Body/head. That left hook to the body should break lara.

No way Canelo. We here on the internet know better then you, you're struggling to make 154.

It's crazy how this kid went from fighting bums to fighting Trout, Mayweather, Angulo, Lara. I'm also liking this talk of fighting for honor. That's exactly what this fight feels like to me.

Canelo Alvarez is doing all the right things atm.

I don't think Canelo can ever make 154 again. Hopefully he moves up to 160 after this fight, he'll have a lot more energy up there.

Good point about him stepping up his level of opposition. Not so long ago he was criticized for his opponents...now he has faced the other guys at the top of the division ; Mayweather, Angulo, Trout...Lara.
He was also set to fight Williams and Ortiz.

Wonder how long before he moves up to 160.

At 160, GGG awaits. I wouldn't be too crazy about that prospect if I were Canelo's manager.

Mayweather wanted Pillow gloves On Madaina on Canelo he wanted a dead man walking at 152 against Amer Con he's probably going to say you can't run, Against Porter he's probably going to have a catch weight of 145 or a hydration clause of no more than 155. If he fights Thurman there we go again Pillow gloves

Fighting at 155 pounds is disrespectful to the sport. If he was fighting GGG at 157 or 158, that would be another story. But fighting a fighter from your division at a higher weight because Canelo doesn't feel he has to go through the trouble of making weight for a regular fight... I am not liking it.
