Comments Thread For: Lara Admits He Was Surprised Canelo Picked Him

It was no secret that Erislandy Lara wanted to get a chance to face the Saul Alvarez in his next fight. He went as far as to confront and ask Alvarez for a shot at Alvarez’s post fight press conference after Alvarez defeated Alfredo Angulo.

The old school tactic used by Lara appeared to fall short as Alvarez dismissed his request and instead Lara signed up to fight Ishe Smith. But just a few weeks after their incident, Alvarez said he wanted to fight Lara for his scheduled July 12th pay per view date. Lara would forego the Smith fight and sign up to fight Alvarez instead.

    I can't say I was especially surprised, but I was impressed. Canelo's a G. Much respect.

Rooting for Lara (been a supporter ever since his fourth pro fight), but I think Alvarez will stop him in the mid/late rounds. Regardless, I am so hyped for this fight! I enjoyed every aspect of Alvarez-Trout, but this is shaping up to be even better. :box2:

Kid deserves serious serious props. Trout, Mayweather, Angulo and now Lara?

That's better than Julio Cesar Chavez Sr at the point in HIS career, and he was steered very clear of Whitaker despite everyone worshipping Julio, yet Canelo gets crapped on for some reason.

I wouldn't hold Canelo's loss to Floyd as much because he looked like he came from the set of the walking dead and straight after is finding it difficult to even make 154.

Depending how Canelo performs against Lara would be a good indication of if his weight would had made a real difference against Floyd since Lara is bigger, stronger and has longer reach than Floyd. If Lara wins a wide UD in fans eyes (judges can rob him this is why I say fans eyes) then Floyd most likely would still have put a clinic on him similar to what he already did.

@ the Angulo fight Canelo asked who wants to see the fight , " who's that your manager?" Then in San Antonio canelo says "this is the fight everyone Is asking for and I'm preparing myself for a great victory." I give canel credit for taking this fight next . I didn't expect that .

He wasn't fighting it hard to make 154, he was weighing in at fights less before that. He won his title LESS than that at a catchweight so I don't know what excuse you're trying to make up.
