I stand corrected, it seems like his 118 days were not important. It looks like he was a 135 pounder in no time and only fought journeymen in those weight classes(below 135). It appears that his first ever meaningful fight was Ken Buchanan at 135. His fights below 135 look more like Canelo's "run" at 147, nothing meaningful and 154 being his first actual step up weight class.

Hearns and Leonard, didn't they start at 147? Duran, the smallest one there, started at 135 and was big on fight night anyway. Floyd at 37, weighs 148lbs at a WW...rehydrating a whopping 1lb. These guys were closer to Maidana's weight already at 147.

I thought it could have been a draw but if Maidana would have got his hand raised it would have been deserved. I hope not getting the decision doesnt set him back because thats the best ive ever seen him..... he will need that intensity again to win the rematch

He beat HOFer and great featherweight champion Ernesto Marcel years before Buchanan. He beat unified, lineal 130 champ Kobayashi before Buchanan, along with perennial contender angel Garcia and also future bantam title challenger Carlos Mendoza at 118.

He didn't have an historic run before lightweight, but beating Marcel alone is huge. That's arguably as good as any win Floyd has, considering timing.
