It's the same Floyd that fought Canelo and Guerrero. He's been past prime for a few years now.

Last night was all about Maidana. Give him credit.

I've said it before and I'll say it again : The way you beat Floyd is to be physically stronger than him. You walk through his offense and maul him on the inside as much as you can and as often as you can.

Anybody who has actually followed his career pre-Oscar (in other words : not many here) will tell you the same. He hates pressure fighters and strong brawlers.
Great post. Damn, you beat me to it.

Floyd's style isn't made for fighters who use their weight to push him around and bullies him on the inside against he ropes with roughhousing tactics. Castillo, Oscar, Cotto, Maidana, Ortiz[had his moments where he used his size and weight to pressured Floyd on the inside]. Hatton didn't really had a size and weight advantage, but he knew how to roughed up Floyd on the inside and made him uncomfortable. Floyd better not fight Porter because he's a more athletic and arguably stronger version of those guys in term of infighting pressure, and at 37 years old, Floyd would have a hard time getting this guy off him especially since Porter will come in around 160+ pounds on fight night.

He stayed on the ropes because he doesnt have the strength to hold back a young Bull. Every other fight gets the "past prime" reasoning except Floyd

I wouldn't go that far. He's one of the best inside fighters in the sport of boxing and it has been that way for years.

That style has given him problems but he won all of those fights pretty clearly except for Castillo. The only one in question is Castillo but even in that fight he built up a 4-5 round lead (can't remember off the top of my head). His short range game is the reason why he has been able to stay undefeated. A lot of these boxers lack of inside games get exposed and they can't stay on top for that long.

I think there were a few factors at work during this fight. I got it wrong...I didn't think Madianna was going to be competative. First off: Floyd's legs are not the same, you can see that it is quite evident. He gets caught on the ropes a lot now-a-days and usually deals with it by moving from the upper torso (shoulder roll) and picking his shots....heres the thing about that strategy, it works as long as he has an out, a place to move too after he gets a shot in.

There are two weaknesses to a shoulder roll, one if them is against a good jab which can make the fighter move to slowly to counter the jab....the fighter has to reposition the whole body and try to wait out the punch after the jab to counter....this weakness also is apparent with speed. If the guy is to quick then the shoulder roller is always in a defensive position and cannot move foward to counter....think Jones against Toney for example.

The other weakness is when a fighter is against the ropes against a guy who really knows how to work the body....The front of the midsection and the liver can be exposed when the shoulder roller moves back against the ropes.

This second weakness caught floyd last night. BUT Madianna is not enough of a body puncher to take him to task for it! Ward would have hurt Floyd last night....Bet on it.

Floyd could not move fast enough to avoid the press but could deal with most of the punches. His mobiilty was limited by his legs
