Comments Thread For: Hopkins Sides With Schaefer: We Don't Need Bob Arum

IBF/WBA light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins, who is also shareholder in Golden Boy Promotions, sees no reason for his company to work with Bob Arum of Top Rank.

At the moment, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, and Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya, are having an internal dispute regarding the "future direction" of their company. One of the main sticking points in that dispute is De La Hoya's desire to reignite a working relationship with Arum. Schaefer is holding firm on his position that he never wants to work with Arum again.

Hopkins sides with the person paying his paycheck, not exactly hard to understand why.

Big up B-Hop! **** Arum. I don't what kinda new "ish" Oscar is on, but Arum has got to go! He offered up a Canelo vs. Pacquiao fight, after Arum called for a boycott of Floyd's fight, and still no response, only Pac vs. Marquez or Alvarado. I'm sure Schaefer, B-Hop, Floyd, and Haymon can make something happen.

Yep. Golden Boy as we know it will be gone by the end of the year. Al Haymon fighters will all go to either Mayweather Promotions or some new company involving Schaefer. Golden Boy keep Canelo and a few others, and have to rebuild.

Hopkins owns a significant amount of shares in Golden Boy so this could actually be significant from him.
