Hitking I think most people think like that but there's the other side to that. The discrimination that often blatantly limits some people on the path to success. It's fair to say "I don't like certain people", that's a personal choice but that transcends into people's professional careers. There are racists who will overlook color of skin if you are going to bring them more money than their peer would. There are many more who won't overlook it and therein lays the issue. You yourself said "I tip black waiters/waitresses better" but not "others because I f**ks with my own". Now your own indiscretion towards other people is hurting them where it shouldn't. If someone gave you good service they didn't do it because of their skin color they did it because they are good at a job and should be rewarded as such. Now if that same person treated you like a second class citizen then don't tip you have that right but if that's not the case why create an uneven level of appreciation?

There's a big difference in how journalists (and thus the common masses who agree with journalists based on perceived legitimacy) react to scary businessmen vs athletes.
Athletes are perceived as lovably/harmlessly delusional whereas businessmen (even if the former overlaps with the latter) are imagined by average people as spending all of their time plotting to take over the universe.
