As if this video proved something. Wilder started boxing late and he was facing a Russian amateur standout. In the amateurs Russians and Cubans are much more advanced than American boxers, and Romanov was always a big puncher.

A lot of successful american pro boxers you see now have probably been knocked out in the amateur ranks too.

And he was stopped because it was an amateur fight. He got dropped only once, so he would have been allowed to continue if it was a pro fight.
