Comments Thread For: Mayweather Discusses The Punching Power of Maidana

Marcos Maidana might be a big underdog Saturday night, but Floyd Mayweather Jr. respects the rugged Argentine brawler’s power.

“Well, it’s obvious he punches extremely hard,” Mayweather said recently while promoting their welterweight title fight at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. “He has an 80-percent knockout ratio. It’s obvious that’s his best attribute. But, you know, a lot of times when a guy’s swinging a lot of big shots and they’re not landing, you get fatigued like that.”

This is getting ridiculous. Maidana's got no chance what so ever and is an average champion at best. Without a doubt one of his worst opponents at WW.

I have total confidence in my fighter. There's been a long list of fighters who could punch and he's handled all of them. No man is above getting knocked out but this guy has an uncanny ability to slip and roll and when he gets hit, he holds them. With that said...on Saturday we will see victim number 46.

Regardless, the man is 37 years old. He has earned the right to go out on his own terms, he has been fighting proffessionally since 96 - i was 22 years old when he turned proffessional, brutal sport !

He's following what Jeff has taught him, don't discredit your opponent even though you are going to dominate him.

Haters enjoy overlooking how he's fighting much younger guys coming of big wins and hold title belts.

            He's just too damn good.

That is unless they get to trash talking which Maidana doesn't do. If Maidana had the gift of gab he would help sell the fight more.

I think Mayweather will be close to the hardest puncher Maidana has ever faced....
I think he hits harder than Broner, Morales, Khan, Soto Karass, Lopez... The only guy with above average power I remember Maidana facing was Ortiz. Every single one of those guys hurt Maidana. Mayweather will hurt him more because he'll hit him more often, more cleanly, and he'll catch him with shots he doesn't see. If Floyd doesn't get the KO I will be suprised.

Maidana couldn't stop Khan, who has a soft jaw
he couldn't stop Terrible, who'd been shot for yrs
he couldn't stop Broner, who he gave a systematic beating to
Maidana is a good puncher but not a deadly puncher
and vs Floyd, will he even land any flush shots?
don't see Maidana getting anything done in this fight

He has about the same chance that Brandon Rios had with Manny. But if Floyd would have fought Rios it would have been a disgrace to boxing but Manny fights Rios it's a great fight. LOL
