Yes Leapai was awful, came in the heaviest he has ever been, and looked like he didn't belong in a championship fight.

But if Wlad didn't fight him they would have stripped his belt. Is that what some of you guys want? Isn't it better to have the belts unified instead of seeing them around the waists of unworthy pretenders?

Anger should be towards WBO. Not Wlad. If he didn't have all of the belts the top fighters would duck him.

I agree, people should be pissed at the sanctioning bodies and their rankings. Not at Wlad. He is just playing by the rules that are in place

As for Maidana.....he is not a mandatory. He is a world champion in his own right who Floyd is unifying with. So that situation doesn't pertain to this thread.

I post this point on most of the Wlad threads...BLAME THE SANCTIONING BODIES, and you can be sure if he didn't take these mandos, you would get haters on here saying he cherry picks, ducks, and makes the division worse by relinquishing belts and clogging up the division with bum paper champs.

But this is honestly something I really don't agree with - I think it's wrong for a no 1. contender to have a tuneup fight and for that potential winner to just grab that no 1. spot, even if he is ranked anywhere up to 50. There should be a further fight with the next top contender, and the former no.1 should be dropped in the rankings. But these instant title shots and sometimes cause these overmatched guys to get in there.
