Eddie Hearn the biggest Promoter in the UK ever?

Seriously, has there ever been a promoter who seems to hold all the relevant names in boxing and has the biggest TV platform in the country?

If Hearn can't other promoters to work with him and he really wants to make a fight happen, he just buys the fighter, even Warren at his peak on ITV didn't seem to have this sort of power or resources.

To his credit, Eddie isn't wasting it either and has spent the last couple years giving us some of the best fights to be made in Britain. What do you all think of him? And what do you think he can do to improve?

Personally, I think the biggest test a promoter has is to build a star, yes he has resurrected careers like Froch's or taken established fighters and given them a larger platform, e.g. Groves and Brook. Joshua and Campbell will be Hearns first true star building projects, let's see how he does.

well its not exactly eddie hearn as such, it's matchroom sport as a promotional outfit who have been around for over 30 years, way before eddie took over duties. But he is getting a lot of good fighters signed up. the reason is partly because of his age, he's not an old man like warren, maloney or arum, so fighters probably relate to him more easily.. surprisingly he seems like a genuine dude who puts the fighters first - which is extremely rare for a promoter.. most promoters are scum but hearn seems ok.

I'm aware of Matchroom, but Eddie runs the boxing branch, his dad, so heavily involved in the 80s and 90s, doesn't really run the boxing side of things. It's all Eddie.

I agree with the second part, he does seem like a genuine guy and has done everything he said he would, which I'm most impressed by. Even when Groves was a being a lil prick, he went out of his way to make sure the rematch would happen, just like he said.

Sky gave Matchroom an exclusive contract. I'm pretty sure Adam Smith fancies Eddie Hearn.

Warren was pretty much the kingpin of British Boxing from the mid 90s to late 00s, Eddie and Sky have only been running together for 3 years now.

Thing about Matchroom is that they are not just boxing promoters they run quite a few other sports as well like darts, poker, snooker and I believe table tennis.

They have found some great niche markets with those sports, so for instance they are not making money from boxing they can allocate their incomes from other sports and still keep putting big fights even if they have empty stadiums. No other promoter can even say that can they? They have deals with 28 channels world wide: UK, Canada, USA, China, Italy and Germany etc. Just go on their site and you will see what I mean.

I believe Matchroom has yet to reach their heights in boxing.

Not that different to most promoters really. He seems smarmy and appears to have an unduly high opinion of himself. The progress of Carl Froch has been a driving force behind his recent success.

One thing he does do a lot better than many older promoters is stay in touch with the boxing fans on a daily basis, it's a big plus to know what the promoter is thinking and why.

Yep, they have made darts (fucking darts!) huge. They are selling out arenas all over the UK and Ireland. There was 11,000 in Leeds to watch guys with beer bellies throw darts. That is mental.

Warren was but he never had the media control Eddie has right now, Hearns has an almost complete monopoly, if other promoters don't make the fight he wants, he just buys the necessary talent. What has enabled him to do so is not just money but the fact that he is with SkySports and everybody knows that's where the real action takes place.

Boxnation has done an admirable job of providing a channel for boxing fanatics but financially it's just not an option for the everyday, casual sports fan.

Two very different opinions and I agree with Badzi, he seems like a nice guy. I've seen him at a couple events myself plus he makes the fights we all want to see and very few have complained about his contracts and so on.

Weebler, where did you get smarmy from? He seems the complete opposite to me.

Promotion is all about money and there is no harm in making that money as long as you do it the right way and provide the best fights, thus far, Eddie has done that.

What I'm really interested in now is to see if he can develop stars from scratch.
