  • Time to be honest (or real) about Floyd

Floyd fans can skip to the part in bold below

I was reading through the posts about him being missed......and....S**T....there are some people that really, really don't like this guy. I'm in the same section of the arena as the ones who say he chose opponents carefully, and should have fought this guy, etc. But to want to see him gone and retire really says something about Floyd. I mean there is genuine hate for this guy. I stopped following Floyd just before he changed his name from Pretty Boy. I would go out on a limb and say it started around that time for a lot of people. I made a topic about a week back titled

"The one thing that Manny has that Floyd never will"

I didn't have the heart to make a topic about "who will be missed more". I think today I finally realized how much good and bad he has done for the sport more so than any other day. The weight of every move he has made since stepping into the ring seemed to all land at once. I understand why his detractors feel the way they do, but to hear that a lot of people will be happy when he retires is f***ed up.

Two questions to all those that despise Floyd and his supporters...

Looking back from now, would any of you rather of not had him in the sport at all?

And, would boxing be better off or worse if Floyd never entered the ring at all?

Floyd added a new dynamic into the boxing world today. He became the antagonist and portrayed the antagonist very well. He became the epitome of the boxing-money maker. He was one of (if not the first) first boxers to take control of their finances and really steer the direction of his career, rather than letting his handlers do it for him.

I think he's set an example for other boxers to have more autonomy- and for that I'm glad he's experienced the success that he has and has influenced he sport in the way that he has.

The dudes an incredible fighter,he combines the athleticism with the boxing brain (think Hopkins crossed with RJJ)

I can understand the hate too,but I think as time goes on appreciation begins to take over

Anyone saying that the sport would have been better without him, is blinded by hate.

I mean, hate the guy, that's fine, but he's got people watching. I routinely hear things like "Boxing is dead, except for Mayweather and Pacquiao".

Now that's a good post. Thank you, Augustane. I completely agree with your comments. Floyd definitely did it his way.
