  • Comments Thread For: Russell: Lomachenko will be a lot easier than people think

Gary Russell Jr. (24-0, 14KOs) is preparing his first world title opportunity, a bout against two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko (1-1, 1KO) for the vacant World Boxing Organization featherweight title on June 21 at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

It's a leap in competition for Russell, as it is for Lomanchenko, but Russell believes fans and critics alike will be quite surprised by the result of the bout.

wait, is this fight confirmed? all booked? This is huge, first GBP v. TR fight in a long time. What network is it going to be on?

I would expect this to be a bigger deal if the fight was confirmed.

Lomo is a lot better than TBA, Gary. I think you'll be surprised yourself.

Both untested, both talented. I still doubt this fight ever happens but I hope it does.

Russell is right. Loma has no pro fight game. Not as yet. It's important to develop abd understand the difference between the ams and the pros.

If anything, it's Loma that's the tested one, while GRJ is the unknown quantity. We know that Loma can immediately do 10 and 12 rounds. We know he can at least survive dirty tactics. We also know he failed his big test, sure. That doesn't mean he won't still be great. It's like a mathematical child prodigy genius who wants to take a degree exam before he's even finished high school. The likelihood is you won't pass the test till you are ready. However, although GRJ has MORE experience, IMO Loma has better experience. He now knows what to expect in the pros, and will know he can't be passive at times and expect to win.

I am 100% confident Loma will come back in this fight with the neccesary adjustments and will beat GRJ.

Russell's gonna beat him. They're ruining Loma before he even gets started.
