If be surprised if he gotHe also might get less per fight, but he could do better per year if he fights more often.
Like he is making 500 grand for a fight is great and a decent years living, but if you fight twice making 350k per you are doing better and if you can get 3 fights a year that is a lot better.
That much.... Mares didn't even get that muchComment

GBP seems to be throwing around money at this moment, and they have Mares locked up while they would have to entice Rigondeaux so I could see Rigondeaux pulling a deal like that per fight.
Such a deal might cause GBP problems down the road, but I don't know that they think this battle is going to last down the road where they will have problems like that (which could be very costly to them).Comment

He gave him the high minimum because at the time Golden Boy also was interested in Rigo and Arum had to outbid him to keep him. He obviously though he could con HBO out of high purses because HBO tends to jack off over p4p and throws money at it despite ratings, and he actually did end up doing just that and made money out of it. He got HBO to give 750k for the Donaire fight. And he got HBO to give out 500k for the Agbeko fight. If he could have done that for one more fight, it would hae been perfect, but he didn't count on audiences to not give a fuck about Rigo to the extend that they did (record low rating) after the Donaire win.Arum isn't a ****** businessman. Why would you sign a 122 pound fighter, who is 33 years old, speaks no English, is a pure boxer and has no natural fanbase to a multi-fight contract with a minimum purse of a half of a million dollars? He loves Rigo and did it out of the goodness of his heart? Rigo is making more money than guys like Golovkin who generate huge ratings and fill seats.
What's funny is that before Arum made the fight the narrative was "Arum is protecting Donaire and is scared of putting him with Rigo because he doesn't want to lose his cashcow" Now, it's "He signed Rigo so he could lose to Donaire. It was a total shocker to Arum when Donaire lost."
What the hell is this shelving stuff you keep on going on about? He has a high minimum right now and Arum hasn't shelved him. If Arum didn't meet his minimum purses and minimum fights per year contractual obligations, that's Arum breaking the contract and Rigo could just leave Arum without being shelved.Last edited by DoktorSleepless; 04-19-2014, 03:00 PM.Comment

Well they won't be any different when and if they got rigo. Schaeffer was complaining about Lara, rigo won't be any differentGBP seems to be throwing around money at this moment, and they have Mares locked up while they would have to entice Rigondeaux so I could see Rigondeaux pulling a deal like that per fight.

True, but it is not like GBP is freezing out Lara they got him Angulo, Trout and now Canelo. Top Rank did make the Donaire fight but that came after that Mares mess and Donaire wanted to get paid that was the fight HBO would pay for, Arum maneuvered himself in between a rock and a hard place.
GBP won't be scared to put him on PPV undercards either.Last edited by The Gambler1981; 04-19-2014, 03:05 PM.Comment

After the Donaire win he IMMEDIATELY went into damage control mode and talked and was ringside criticizing the win and making excuses for Donaire. That doesn't sound like a promoter that had a plan in place to move forward with promoting the guy.He gave him the high minimum because at the time Golden Boy also was interested in Rigo and Arum had to outbid him to keep him. Because he has belts and has to make defenses. What the hell is this shelving stuff you keep on going on about? He has a high minimum right now and Arum hasn't shelved him. Under cards they won't care for, don't see rigo headlining any show cards though.... Mares is yea, lsc is a maybe. Also wouldn't be surprised to hear rigo complaining about moneyTrue, but it is not like GBP is freezing out Lara they got him Angulo, Trout and now Canelo. Rigondeaux needs to accept what he is, if can't that is his problem no one else's.
GBP has no problem putting high priced talent on undercards though, and Showtime almost always shows 3 fights at least per card, so it is easier to mix in a guy like Rigondeaux whereas HBO shows at most 3 (very rarely) and usually 1 or 2.
I do agree that Rigondeaux would not headline much if at all though except possibly against those guys or some other Mexican (or possibly a Puerto Rican) that emerges.
It is where these two different philosphies really come to a headLast edited by The Gambler1981; 04-19-2014, 03:22 PM.Comment
