Im told that Chavez is in Las Vegas, currently, milling over a new offer from Top Rank. This will be an interesting next few days #boxing

I agree with most of your post, but the bold is why he is so important. I'm not defending his knowledge or credentials, but when you're the main boxing writer at ESPN, then you're pretty important, especially in a niche sport like boxing. That dude does nothing for boxing,,, he is about as knowledgable of the sport as a casual fan.. The only reason he even gets stories and breaking news is because he works for the biggest sports network.. Before that he wrote for newspapers and only covered boxing because they didn't have anyone to cover a local fight card, so he got sent and has been stuck in boxing ever since.. Literally first fight he saw, was the first one he was sent to cover,,,
I like max kellerman and some others that actually grew up as fans and have knowledge of the sport...Comment

Also while his humor may be ******, he actually does call out a lot of the power brokers that a lot of lesser writers don't (or can't) because they don't want to risk access. Being with ESPN means he can speak freely without getting cut out.
It is a shame he doesn't do more with it but hey when I look at other boxing writers really Rafael isn't all that much different other than having the bigger platform.Comment

I could think of a few better writers/replacements, but that doesn't change the point that he's in a significant position of power. When Manny/Floyd is on the front page of espn, the article you're reading is his.
Overall, the writing on ESPN for boxing is not very good. I enjoy the Grantland boxing pieces over anything produced by ESPN.Comment

I get your reasoning, espn hits the biggest audience, and when he breaks news on espn sports center, millions more people hear about it than just the normal boxing websites and hardcore fans
That's was my exact thoughts as well
I agree, and especially about the espn personalities,, I actually don't mind the writers so much but I can't stand the idiots like skip bayless, Stephan a. Smith, and any of the others that try and talk boxing.. They have absolutely no idea what they are talking about... They just had some staffer boxrec a guy and print his wiki page and they go off that and try to sound authoritarian like they know the sport.,I could think of a few better writers/replacements, but that doesn't change the point that he's in a significant position of power. When Manny/Floyd is on the front page of espn, the article you're reading is his.

Haymon is not a promoter, or even technically a manager, he is simply an "advisor". But a manager's duties work along side a promoterComment

He is not worth anything near 47 million. Haymon would be absolutely crazy to offer that. Jr is on borrowed time. He is as tough as they come, but not much of a fighter.Comment
