    yes, he did.

sure he clinched a lot, but he outboxed him too. he wouldnt have been able to win if he didnt, you cant win by just holding for 12 rounds. devon did his work, plenty of it too and he shut down maidanas. sometimes by holding, but so what?

clinching and smothering on the inside is part of boxing, if you want to work inside you just got to find a way to cope with it like other alexander opponents have. if you dont you will lose and thats what happened.

Cope with what? It was a clear strategy in this particular fight. Alexander has never been a guy to consistently clinch. In this fight in particular it stopped Maidana from working at all. Alexendar would work from range, run, hold when he got backed up, and Maidana wasn't allowed to work.... Simple as that.

Maidana clearly didn't deal with it well, but that doesn't change the fact that it's illegal.

Excessive clinching isn't a valid excuse for losing nearly every single round. It didn't stop Bradley and Porter from completely dominating Alexander. Maidana is a solid, fan-friendly ****er and that's about it. His so called improvements have coincided with favourable matchmaking.
