Comments Thread For: Garcia Tabs Maidana To Beat Mayweather's Past Foes

Trainer Robert Garcia is preparing Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31KOs), the WBA welterweight champion, for the fight of his life. Maidana will face heavily favored WBC champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26KOs) in a unification on May 3rd from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

During his long career, Mayweather has fought and beaten some of the best fighters of his era. Garcia is impressed with Mayweather's record, but he also picks Maidana to beat any fighter on Mayweather's record.

    Garcia's reaching!!!

Cotto would easily outbox him and canelo would stop him!

I'd pick past prime Cotto, past prime Oscar, past prime Mosley, Robert Guerrero, Marquez, Hatton, weight drained 152 Canelo, and prime Zab Judah over Maidana.

I'd think Cotto, Marquez, Canelo all beat Chino. IMO

Hatton vs Chino though would have been a pick em fight.

Wild wide luping punches is not going to work on Cotto.

I could think of quite a few Mayweather opponents who would've handled Maidana (like his last one).

But Maidana is getting Floyd at the right time. 37-years-old, locked into a contract that forces him to fight twice a year...he can't be too thrilled about that regardless of what he's getting paid. I just recently saw an interview where he said he's not excited about boxing anymore. I don't know if Maidana is the one but I've always maintained that Showtime shelled out so much money not only because of Floyd's stature but because having the rights to his first loss is going to net some serious future cash.

Garcia shouldn't forget Maidana lost to Alexander so I cant see Maidana beating Judah,Gatti,Coralles,Mitchell,Chop Chop,Canelo,Marquez, A prime Hatton just to mention a few. Basically there are very few fighters on Mayweather's resume that Maidana would beat.

Yep, said it before and I'll say it again. Probably will always keep saying.

Maidana does not win fantasy fights. Everyone thinks he's a bum because he doesn't meet the "eye test" I keep hearing about.
