the most prolific division in boxing was 140 when i checked last. lots of guys who box are around that size. welterweight is where the money is. "junior" divisions rarely, if ever, remain on the forefront of boxing for several years.

it's no coincedence that WW is such a robust division, given those two things.

WW is probably a good guess. my point with the rhetoric earlier in the thread was that it's always going to be a guess when you're trying to predict what boxing will look like in six years. there's just too much that can go wrong. injuries, wins / losses, network issues, promotional issues, going to jail [mayweather style,] etc.

I think it's possible to make a prediction as 6 years isn't too far away, and you can make some educated guesses from current up and comers you see or those that may still be around. Also, the current top guys like Klitschko, Floyd, Pac etc will all be gone, allowing new guys to claim those P4P spots.

So, what say you, NSB - which will be the best weight class in the sport in 2020? On a lesser note - when do you think the next great period for boxing history in a weight class will happen? Or have fighters regressed in skill level too much for this to really happen?

And by 'best', this is open to interpretation - feel free to justify your pick not just on 'best' by skill level, but where you think the most exciting fights will happen, perhaps where the next P4P star will be, etc.

Also - which weight class is - in your opinions - the current best in the sport?

        May add a poll later

Agreed. And the LW division has been weak for years so its possible 147 goes into a slump in the post Floyd/Pac era.

Still I think its the safest bet out of them all because your talking about those 5'6-5'11; 145-160 type of fighters.

It's a shadow weight class...the fights are all behind an invisible iron curtain...we will never see those beasts!

somewhere between 147-175 (almost always is).

its called middleweight for a reason, its the average size of a man, hence there are more men that size and more competition than there are in other divisions. how many guys you know who weigh under 120lbs? its rare, the competition doesnt get as tough and the quality suffers.

same thing applies even more when you go above 175, because now you are not only dealing with less athletes but the ones you got are mainly going to other sports that from the athletes point of view provides better oppertunities (college, better odds at making it etc).

im gonna take a shot in the dark and say 154. seems a lot of these new weight classes have been getting more love lately instead of being overlooked. also 154 is one of my favorite divisions historically considering hearns, mccallum and jackson, three of my four favorite fighters all fought at 154 and had some of their greatest triumphs there.
