Is Kovalev vs. Stevenson another Garcia vs. Matthysse waiting to happen?

    Not even close...

I think both Kovalev and Stevenson are better than Matthysse and Garcia. Much more advanced, both have devastating knockout power, skills etc.

Both Matthysse and Garcia are, as Dwyer would say, Mid range hookers. Stevenson and Kovalev actually have jabs.

Danny did not fight Matthysse right away. Remember that's why so many people were claiming that he was shook. People would've much rather have seen Danny fight Matthysse than Judah.

I'm talking about when posters went crazy with the "duck" threads and pics of Danny allegedly being scared while watching Lucas KO Peterson. That's when the demand reached it's peak after the Peterson fight and Danny fought him after that. I'm sure people wanted to see Lucas instead of Judah but remember that fight was postponed from early start of the year till the summer and Lucas was taking on another champ in Lamont so there was little backlash.

Yes, I remember. Danny shouting at each street corner: "Bring me Lucas right now!"... We all remember.

Anyway, if Sergey gets a freak eye injury and is up against a homer ref then you never know, it might be another Garcia v Matthysse.

I'll say this much for Danny, at least he manned up and took the fight. Stevenson has gone the Mayweather way and is running away boasting about money and cars.

No not really.... Serg and Adonis are both big punchers, where Lucas was considered the puncher vs the counterpuncher Danny..

But yeah, it is one of the must see fights much like Danny Lucas was

Cept it ain't quite the same... this fight just built and built - coincidentally at first - but with both Kovalev and Stevenson landing title fights within months of each other and both annihilating top end opposition it became a 'must see' fight.

If some omnipotent promoter with unlimited resoursces had been tasked with building the perfect LHW fight they couldn't have arranged it much better...

And the best thing? The vast majority, no matter which fighter they back, acknowledges that it is an absolute pick-em fight. Kovalevs relentless power combos vs Stevensons deadly left counter....

With DSG vs LM there just hadn't been the same concurrent build up - the same 'who's the biggest hitter' questions asked after each big KO - really it was just the Peterson fight that suddenly made it must see (though the guys were obviously on an eventual collision course).

I'm guessing why the Kovalev -Stevenson debacle has been so polarising is that the almost unanimous feeling is that we, the fans, are the ones who lost out on what shoulda been an epic fight whoever you happened to support.
